We have always had a WIC person come to our home to recertify us. But now that my kids are two-years old WIC is hassling me about doing a home visit. They are "this close" to insisting that I bring the children in to the office for recertification. I am in a near-panic. There's no way this can happen with me by myself.
1 - If it's raining they'll get completely soaked, both coming & going. It takes some time to load the kids in/out of the stroller, and during that time if it's raining they'll just get drenched. BTDT, it's not right to do it to them again. No way am I going to make them sit around in wet clothes & hair.
2 - Even if we get there, what am I going to do, force them to sit in the stroller while we wait for Lord knows how long in the reception area, then wait (still strapped in) while we meet with whomever about our qualifications? Like three 2-year olds are going to do THAT without protest? Of course I wouldn't even dream of letting them out of the stroller because I couldn't keep them under control, and I know Hope would freak out & scream & cry & attach herself to me like glue (she always does this whenever we're somplace new).
I don't know why, but this has made me so deeply angry today. It's bad enough they want me to take them somewhere and expose them to people who probably have sick kids or are sick themselves (sorry, but seems like most "poor" folks like us don't have the best of health or personal sanitation practices). But to force us to endure something like this is an extreme hardship, if you ask me. It's upsetting enough to still need WIC in the first place, but to make us go somewhere that I know in advance will be an extremely upsetting, unpleasant experience for my kids is sending me over the edge.

Aw, Tulip - aren't government offices the WORST??
I got a note from our pedi saying that he did not want them exposed to the kind of stuff that is likely floating around the WIC office, and they accepted that. I don't have to ever bring them in to get recertified.
EDITED TO ADD: I didn't clarify - I go in, but the kids don't have to. The pedi said that due to their prematurity, they shouldn't be in a public health office, so he gave me a note stating the same, with their weights and lengths for the WIC folks to put in our file.

Tulip:
Not to sound insensitive, but I am very surprised that they have been recertifying you at home for this long. WIC budgets are getting tighter and tighter and the cost of providing services go up exponentially when home visits are provided. Having worked in public health for many years, we were losing WIC providers because the reimbursement wasn't sufficient to deliver the services. I think you will encounter other parents in the WIC office that have 3+ children who have found a way to make their appointments.
Good luck,

Thank you for your insensitive reply to my vent. I doubt seriously if I would find many WIC mothers who have three children all under the age of two, not unless each child had an 8-month gestation and the mother got pregnant in less than a month of giving birth each time. And certainly if she did have three children under the age of two not all three of them would be mobile.

I agree with Lisa and I don't think her comment was insensitive in any manner. From my experience with WIC, you are lucky they have ceritifed you at home for as long as they have. Other people have to bring their kids in, so should you.

You know, THIS is why I don't use TC as an avenue when I need support. I can post thousands of positive things for other people, go out of my way to help others, but when *I* need a little support, or if *I* need a "safe place" to vent, I can't do it here. I should have known better than to even think I could vent at TC! I'm such a fool. This is not the first time that I've come here to express frustration or some other irritating tidbit about being a mother to triplets, but it's certainly my last. Each time I've done so I've been peppered by people who "don't mean to be insensitive" or are quick to make snippy comebacks. I hesitated to even put up this vent because I suspected there would be someone, probably more than one someone, who would not be supportive.

Just because we have a differing opinion does not make us insensitive or unsupportive.
When we did WIC, I had to fight to not bring them in their first RSV season, and after those first few months I always had to bring them in. I was alone as well. There's a difference between not bringing in newborns who are at high-rish for RSV and not bringing in two-year-olds because it will inconvenience the mother. If you choose to participate in these programs, it just kind of goes with the territory. So, you can either choose to be upset about it or be glad you made it two years without bringing them in. But there is really no need to be in a near-panic. You will do what all triplet moms do - load them up, brings snacks and books to entertain, and use purell on their hands. Good luck.

Hi Tulip,
Just wanted to agree with you on this point. I have asked a very simple question and was bombarded with a bunch of parents who didn't think I should even *ask* such a question. SO... I am sorry you have gotten the responses you did. It sucks. I know you're just venting, and I hope you find some of the other posts were helpful.
You will always find people in the world who are insensitive. There are people who are better off, and worse off, than you. There will always be people who can hurt your feelings no matter what they say. I, of course, would not be so forgiving should it happen to me because it's always different when you're on the other side of the "abuse", but I just wanted to let you know that not everyone is out to hurt you (intentionally or not), and I hope that you (and I) will be able to post here in the future for a vent... and just ignore the responses you don't like

Tulip,
All 4 of my kids were on WIC for the first 4 years and I always took them in with me. I had no choice. I took them to recertify and when I had to just pick up the vouchers. The kids weren't always happy to be there but that was life! I had 4 kids under 2 for awhile but we did survive the trips.

Tulip- sorry about your WIC situation. I wanted to share my experience. After the girls were born I went to the WIC office to see about qualifications, etc. When I got there I was reading a brochure and it said that the children had to come in every so often for an iron test. I went through the roof. No way was I going to do this. So when they call my name, I asked the put-out information taker about the shots and she refused to give me the info and was continuing with the standard info. A nicer lady spoke up and said that the shots were required, so I just left. A friend of mine had triplets recently and I know she got a letter from her physician about her babies delicate health and doesn't have to go it. I don't think they do any type of home visit here. Sorry it was a rough time for you. I got a jurt duty letter in the mail in October and if they call me for the first intial meeting I had planned on taking the girls with me but since they did not get the flu shot I hesitate taking them in...ugh
Hope it gets better for you and you can find a common ground with the WIC dept.

I totally understand. When mine were just shy of a month old they tried to get me to bring them into the office even after I told them about the fact that they were premature and at risk foe sickness. Even after I got a note from their doc, I was still given a hassle because they didnt have them there to get their weights.
Would you be able to get a Doc notice saying you are unable to bring them in?
I was shocked at how some of the parents at the WIC office just let their kids cough all over eachother and put their mouths on chairs and toys. I wanted so badly to tell them "Dont you know that there are germs all over that stuff?" At times I was just itching to pick some of those kids up off the floor and wipe their hands with the antibacterial wipes I carry in my purse.}>
Hope you can get this resolved.

I do not think anyone is being insensitive, if it is raining and you are afraid of your kids getting wet then cancel and reschedule. With that being said I do not take my kids to the WIC office with the exception of one time due to my kids being 32 weekers and coming home on monitors, having asthma etc. The pedi gives me a note with their weights, heights etc and I take the note in and have my mom watch my kids. As far as I know Tulip your kids were not really that premature, have no health issues so what is the problem with taking them? I take my kids to speech therapy everyweek and they sit in the stroller for 1 1/2 hrs while I occupy them with snacks, books, little toys. Each baby gets out of the stroller for 30 minutes, but they spend one hour each direction in the car and 1 1/2 hrs total at therapy with only 30 minutes out of a sitting position. It is expected of them and they do it. Since my kids have been born they have never had the chance to get out of the stroller and walk in the mall, doctors office (except to be examined), grocery store, state fair, amusement park, chuck e cheese, etc and they are use to sitting. Not sure how I would keep up with 4 kids not contained anyway. Only their older brother gets to walk.

Tulip,
I just have to say you have been extremely lucky to have someone come to your house. We have had to take our boys in since they were 4 months old and just out of the NICU each time to re certify. We even have one with BPD and very sick and we still have to take them in we do not have the option. I am surprised that they even had the option this long. It is difficult but possible to get them there. I have been taking mine for 2 years. It is a pain though..

I think a lot of it depends upon the state/county you are in. I live in PA and have had to take my three every 6 months to get recertified- I have them have their iron tests done at the pedi office though. I look at it like this, I feel truly privileged to be able to get WIC so I do what they ask within reason. I always try to schedule their appt. the first one in the morning, this way no waiting and not hardly anyone else in there. I can see where you are coming from that it's annoying, but think about how annoying it would be to not get all of the things that WIC provides.

Tulip,
Please don't feel like you can't vent here, you can. I think that there are so many different people and personalities that sometimes things are going to clash. Maybe we all just need to realize that a vent is just that-a vent. We are annoyed with something, whether it is large or small, significant, or not-something is botheering us, and we need to vent. Who else to go to but others that understand what it is like to be in our shoes, the moms here at TC. I don't think you were looking for anyone to solve your problem, or set you straight-just someone to listen. It doesn't mean we have to agree, just listed-that is what friends do and that is what I consider everyone at TC to be.

I was allowed to recertify once without the babies during RSV season (when they were 8 months old), this required an exemption from my pediatrician. All the other times I am required to bring them in. I also take them with me for my other WIC appointments, (my 4 year old, education, etc.) so I do take all six children with me. Our office will not do home visits and require physician exemption or nothing! My only suggestion is to have a physician exemption written for you.

We don't qualify for wic, but my sister and sister in law get it. We had a horrible snow storm here this week, schools were closed for 2 days, which is unusual here. My sister had a wic appt. yesterday(thursday) she called them and asked to reschedule. They told her she COULD NOT reschedule. She had to take her 3 kids with her in horrible road conditions, which is not right but they did not give her an option.
I am sorry they are making you come in to the office. I have had a few bad experiences here, however those people that have shunned me have not chased me away and i truly hope you stick around here at TC.

Tulip,
I am in no way trying to be insensitive but I would like to give you another perspective on this. We do not qualify for wic and let me tell you our formula costs are WAY up there as anyone knows that does not qualify for wic. I realize you dont use formula and probably never did since you obviously breast fed but basically you get ALOT of free food. What I'm trying to say is that since (if I remember right) your babies never had any real medical issues and it is just more of an inconvenience , I have a hard time being sympathetic. I mean, if I could get wic to buy our formula I would load them up and go there once a week if I had to in order to save hundreds of $$$$. Am I making any sense??? I'm not trying to be harsh at all, I'm just saying that you should be thankful that you even get wic and what is a little inconvenience in order to get some free food? Also, you are such a strong woman and always seem to have everything under control so I would think that this would be no big challenge for you.

As a mother of triplets who has applied yet is not eligible for the program I think you should be grateful for the government program that ultimately helps your children. If you don't agree with their policies perhaps you shouldn't participate in their program. The policies apply to everyone and not just you.
And you shouldn't insuate that all people who participate in WIC are sick and dirty simply because they are "poor folks". I have many friends who particiate in WIC who would be insulted by such insensitive remarks.
I do emphathize with you but one of the realities of having triplets is that you will be challenged at certain times.

I personally don't think that the WIC office is asking you to do an inconceivable thing. I could understand being upset if your children were infants and/or born very premature, but your children are older and healthy (as far as I know?). Yes, it is an inconvenience, but honestly, it doesn't appear to me that it would be considered a "hardship" for your situation. I can think of several instances where I HAD to take all four children (when they were VERY young) with me to a county appointment (one of my dd's has a disability). Yes, I was irked, but learned to deal with it. My attitude was that yes, I have four children, but this is the way it is going to be and I have to adjust for my own independence and my childrens also. Of course, I was taking the risk of them all getting sick (especially my dd with the disability)but that is life and I didn't expect state and county rules to bend for my convenience. My dd has medicaid through a special state program due to her disability and I am grateful she qualifies and I will (and have) jump through any "hoops" that are required.
I hope that you continue to frequent TC for both receiving and giving advice. Your posts are valued here! You must know that we all have differing opinions and just because some posters do not agree with you doesn't mean that you cannot vent here.
I remember starting a post that was intended to focus on our blessings and it was totally "mauled" by some of TC. It was quite upsetting because a few posters turned it into something very personal and attacked me personally based upon *assumed* information about my financial status. I do not see any personal attacking in any of these responses. I see differing opinions.

Well I have read all these responses and I havent replied because I was afraid that Tulip would not recieve my comment (she said she is not reading any more), but I just wanted to say that I did not even know that they would do home visits for wic. Had I known that I probably would have got them to do it for me. If they offer it, why not? I have taken my babies in quite a few times. It is a pain in the butt, but we have to do what we have to do. I feel that you got lucky and used to them coming to your house, but had they not done that in the first place you wouldnt have this vent. I am sorry that you were affended by ppl on this board, I really enjoy reading your posts. So please dont back out now, just take it with a grain of salt and keep going. I do not post alot, mostly because I am usually reading post in between doing something with the babies, but I really learn alot on this site.
Patricia, the one who cries like she is mad at the world. Joshua, the one who grunts constantly. Leigh Anne, my quiet, easily pleased baby. And Allen, my get into everything 5 year old.

First of all I would like to say I am poor, but not sick or dirty! I have also had to take all three of the babies, by myself, since they were 4 months old. And I have had to bring them in with their heart monitors all in tow. We were never given the choice of having WIC come to the house and recertify us. I have also had to take my 27 weekers out each month last year for their RSV shots because they didn't come out to do that either. My three have done very well each time in the office. The nutritionist was great about helping me keep them occupied and I always made sure I had something for them to drink and snack on to help. You would be amazed at how well they adjust. I am sorry but this post just hit me the wrong way. I am glad that I am able to get some sort of help for our family. My husband works his butt off for us and it's nice to know that some of that is coming back to us.

Hi Beth!!
I also took all four of my quads (28-weekers) by myself to the WIC office for every recert (from the time they were tiny newborns), and although I was concerned about RSV, I didn't worry about taking them. I just made sure that only the people who worked there touched my babies - and only after they had washed their hands, and that children in the waiting room did not come close to my babies.
I understand your concerns, Tulip, but it really will be OK. They are two, and their immune systems should be developed enough to withstand RSV without serious complications. At some point you have to start looking at them as regular kids than as tiny, fragile preemies. That's not always easy for a mom who has been through so much, but it is not only possible, but necessary. Take it from one who knows first hand.

wow, I can't believe they let you certify at home ever. I have brought my babies into the WIC office since they were born, by myself. I was so grateful for the help that I never though to ask if someone could come to my house or to complain. I have postponed my 1 year recertification twice because of rain and snow. I usually have to park far away and it's hard pushing the stroller through the snow. I am too far away from my one year check up now to use the info from that visit but the wic office told me as long as I have the Dr. fill out the forms I wouldn't have to bring the kids with me but now it's too late. My problem is I don't have anyone to watch them at home anyway so if I have to go so do they. I just keep my kids away from others in the waiting room. Frankly, poor people on WIC probably have healthier kids than a lot of two income families who bring their sick kids to day care 50 hours a week. I am going to try to get on public healthcare too. We have insurance but the copayments and medications are just killing me. Last week my husband's whole check went to food, coopayments and medications for the kids. I am filling out college applications for my 2nd oldest and the financial aid application alone is going to cost $275. I can't believe that it could cost so much to apply for financial aid.
anyhow, good luck. I know how stressful it can be.

You know, she said enough was enough. You don't have to rub it in anymore as she was just venting & not directing it towards anyone here. It is your problem if you feel she was. Tulip~Here is my story:
We don't *officially* qualify for WIC either BUT since my trio qualified for SSI, in NJ they automatically got Medicaid in return qualified them for WIC. Now, I did not know this until they were 11 months old so I missed out on almost a year's worth of formula. I had to bring them in for their initial visit so they could be weighed & have their iron tested. I never had to bring them again though, they just needed the weights from the Pedi. Now, if they offered home visits, you bet your Patootie I would have jumped on it. And yes, there were filthy, poor sick people in there, that doesn't mean I am or you are or Tulip is. It's a fact. People milk the system, we all know that. And if I had to bring my kids, fine, I would have and I would have let them throw fits, cry, scream and annoy other people. I bet that would have been the LAST time I would have had to bring them, LOL!

For me personally, part of my venting "procedure",if you will, is to try to get a different perspective on the situation. It feels good to vent, step back and maybe get some info that maybe wasn't considered by myself, to help me view it in a different light. Yes, I might get a little p*ssed off at first (human nature) but as an adult, I like to welcome differing opinions and from what I see of Tulips other valuable and informative postings she would welcome the same? Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not see any intentional *personal* attacks in any of the responses to Tulip. It is also obvious to me that the respondents realize nothing was directed personally at anyone on TC.
Yes, it is tough to have to bring along children to these types of appointments, I wholeheartedly agree (been there, done that), but it is an inconvenience and we are all faced with those every day of our lives. Is it an incovenience for me when I have to bring a very ill child to the ped and drag my other three with me? Yes, of course, but should I expect the ped to come to my house just because it would be more convenient to me? It is called life and I feel blessed and thankful that I am dealing with these incoveniences. In my case, I could very well not have these blessings and I embrace lifes everyday irritations and incoveniences for what they are worth. trpsn1

If you don't remember Tulip when she first signed up here then let me refresh you. She was afraid to go out of the house alone with the kids, her dh gave her a hard time and she came here looking for help. Her vent falls under this again. She was just looking for the support of "You can do it!" not to be flamed for it.
"Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not see any intentional *personal* attacks in any of the responses to Tulip."
Maybe you have selective reading cause there are a few posts on this thread that do intentionally attack her. This board in the past few months has become very hostile. No wonder some of our Charter Members only respond once in a blue moon. I must have an awesome Pedi cause when my trio were going through Synagis he came to our house & gave them their shots during his lunch break. Along the lines of Tulip's words, I will not check this thread again. There are way more important threads to respond to and offer SUPPORT!

If you kindly would point me in the direction of the posts that do intentionally attack or even flame her, I would be glad to eat my words. I haven't seen anything resembling a flame here, unless there is more to the story that just isn't in black and white?
Although, I have again re-read the responses, I cannot find anything that looks like a personal attack. However, the responses to Lisa and Gretchen by the original poster could be perceived as defensive.
As far as hositily goes....well, I guess I shouldn't comment on that. I would hate to have this response viewed as a personal attack.

Just curious, what makes one a "charter" member?
I'm thinking the "Charter" members certainly have their "flame" and "hostile" times, as do the rest of us.

THANK YOU Tiffani! I have been thinking about this thread and not really knowing how to voice my feelings...there's no point in trying to be politically correct and therefore dance around the truth - there ARE dirty, sick people in those public health offices. Are ALL of them dirty and sick? No, for heaven's sake - but it only takes ONE to get my kids sick. And that's not acceptable. I did not want to bring my babies to that office and I found a way around it. I only hope and wish that Tulip could too. I'm not going to sit here and talk about how grateful I am to be lucky enough to qualify for WIC - my tax dollars since the day I started working have gone to fund that program, and in my time of need, I DESERVE WIC. They should be grateful for my support of them, not the other way around. Flame me if you want, but don't forget where your money goes once it gets taken out of your paycheck - WIC is simply that money coming back to you. You shouldn't have to lick anyone's bootheels or be unreasonably inconvenienced to get the benefits of YOUR money.
EDITED TO ADD: We also have a nurse that comes and gives the boys their Synagis shots - and while I'm grateful for that as well as WIC, I also know that I PAID FOR IT with my tax dollars in all the years that I have worked. The help that we get now has been paid for many times over.

There should NEVER be a charge to file for financial aid. That is ridiculous and unethical. I was a Financial Aid CoOunselor and would be happy to help you fill out the forms -- for FREE. Please e-mail me about this so I can help you! gottriplets@gmail.com or kunster@aol.com

Peggy-just a sidenote here..financial aid forms (FAFSA?) shouldn't cost anything. Maybe the school's application cost that much? I had to fill out the financial aid paperwork before qualifying for a student loan for my Master's degree, the application was free. I'm wondering if you're talking about the school's application fee.

as this is going on and on and on...
i don't think this really has anything to do with WIC. i also don't think this has anything to do with tulip's capability of bringing her kids into the office to recertify, as we all know how capable she is. we all know how frustrating and annoying it is to be accustomed to a certain way of doing things and then told that it has to change....especially when that means more work for us. it has nothing to do with being ingrateful. i'm sure we've all been frustrated at some type of change in our lives, but once we did it once or twice, it became routine. i remember it happening many times and maybe wanted some support in the beginning, like, "that REALLY sucks but you can do it!"

Filthy, Dirty, Poor, sick people? There are sick people everywhere you go....is it the filthy, dirty, poor part that bothers you? There IS a point in being politically correct. Lets try to remember that people from all walks of life have triplets and read these pages. I ashamed at what some of the postings on this string have touched on.

I'm not going to walk on eggshells when it comes to my children's health. Does being poor, dirty, or sick make someone a bad person? No. Let's not confuse the issue here. I've been sick before, and I've been poor before. Heck, I'm poor now! The issue at hand is not about whether or not it's ok to be filthy, dirty, poor, or sick. It's about keeping one's children healthy, and limiting their interaction with anyone who may be filthy, dirty, or sick is what will help keep them healthy. Unfortunately, in many cases, the poor are all of those things. It's not the rule, as we all know, but it is a fact of life. For example - would you want your children in close proximity to a homeless person who, through no fault of their own in many cases, may not have bathed recently, may have body lice, scabies, any contagious virus or something else that is dangerous to them? It's fine to be self-righteous and politically correct in our words, but would our actions match them? I'm not ashamed of anything I've said in this thread - and I don't think I've said anything that anyone else may think but not say.

Misty,
I agree that it is important as parents to do everything in our power to keep our kids healthy. No argument with that here! I have a child with Downs that has a weakened immune system and I understand the importance of keeping the family healthy. However, as a Christian, I wouldn't want my children to feel as if they could not approach a homeless person because he/she is filthy and/or carrying something contagious. I encounter prejudices from time to time regarding disabled people and it would breaks my heart knowing that people are possibly staying away from my daughter because of something that she has no control over. No one is perfect and I am raising my children to value every human life, not matter the circumstance, social status, or appearance.
Tulip,
I can understand you being upset with the inconvenience of having to take along all three children to the WIC office, yes, it's a pain in the backside. I guess the point I am trying to make here is, maybe to try to put it into perspective? Of course, it is going to probably suck, but you will be able to do it! Heck you have managed to bf triplets, this should be a piece of cake! Inconvenience yes, hardship no. A hardship to me would be having to bring three children in wheelchairs.
I hope you feel like you can continue to post here because you really do have alot to offer this site! You come right to the point, give great advise (and sometimes lifesaving) and are not affraid to say it like it is no matter who's toes you step on. Well, maybe yours have been stepped on today, but I think it was done with the best of intentions, just as I am sure your intentions are always the best.

Please don't get me wrong trpsn1 - I am also a compassionate person who would be in a very sorry state if not for the kindness of many of my fellow human beings. I would hate to think that my children avoided someone because they were homeless, too - but I'm talking about babies, infants, toddlers mingling with people who may have communicable diseases. Totally different story. I don't mean to sound as if I cross the street to avoid the less fortunate - that is not the case at all. In fact, DH and I discussed this year that when our boys are old enough, we would like to make it a family tradition to volunteer at soup kitchens on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days, and that that would be a wonderful way to spend our holiday together and have our children learn what the holidays should really be about. I really would hate to think that I am coming off as an unloving, selfish, inconsiderate human being - but the issue here was never the quality of people who are on WIC, it was the quality of the health of those who may visit WIC's offices, and one's health has nothing to do with the kind of person they are.

Tulip, I didn't take the time to read the other replies. I just wanted to say I wish WIC up here woul dhave done home visits! I am dreading our upcoming appoinment on the 19th, as there is always some hacking kid in the waiting room. Last time, even though I push the stroller away from any people, and especially away from kids, a kid ran up to the stroller and pulled Vivian's hair!!
I hate going to the office, and when it is flu season like this, I hate it even more! I would make do without it,but there is NO WAY we can afford all the pediasure for Vivian!
I hope you get your in-home visits back, maybe a note from your Pediatrician would help?

Ok, so Tulip isn't reading this post anymore...
We've had WIC since the trio was born since we went from a 3 person family with 2 incomes to a 6 person family with 1 income.
I feel sooo lucky that I get FREE formula, etc. every since darn month! It saves a fortune! Yes, I HATE going to WIC, find it inconvenient as heck, am a bit ashamed using my "checks" at my upscale supermarket, but I do whatever I need to do to make our lives simpler (moneywise).
That Tulip got home visits from WIC for these 2 years is amazing and I'd be annoyed too if they decided it wasn't worth their while anymore. I have 4 kids on WIC and bringing in everyone was a pain in the a**!! I've only had to bring in the triplets once and Nyomi 2X & brought a friend with me the first time.

HI
I also was able to have WIC come to my house for the first year. I tried to schedule their dr apts around the WIC schedule so the dr office could do the heights/weights and iron. WIC was fine with this. UNTIL I moved to a bigger county. I actually called the WIC State office and spoke to the highest person I could reach and explained my situation. Well, I got a call the next day from the local WIC office and they were happy to accomodate me!! I used to work for the county so I know what they really can and can't do. I have brought them all in once and insisted that I either be the first or last appointment and not have to wait in the waiting room... I do the same and the dr's office.. We are luckly that we do/did qualify for WIC and it has helped allot but the WIC staff does have obligations to their clients. I have also reported a staff member to the state about her "terrible" (to say it nice) treatment of the clients. This does help because on the next appointment she is no longer dealing face to face with clients...
From what I understand to Public Health has been getting budget cuts BUT the Wic program has not but has actually seen an increase in funding due to more people qualifing..
Good Luck

#323658, "Is this a .org or .com site??"
Is TC starting to turn into IVillage or something??
Seems more and more people are popping up with these HUGE @$$ signature lines.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but we have a forum for photos. And I beleive the TC site once was almost crashed when everyone started posting pics of themselves on the main forum.
I know there were some changes since then. Is the main fourm able to handle this if it keeps up and more people do it?

I'm glad someone else noticed this.
Every day signature lines w/pictures get bigger and bigger - and DONT GET ME WRONG - the siggy lines are creative and wonderful, but it takes me FOREVER to open up threads that contain them.

I had no idea that this was an issue as there are no posting guidelines or signature guidelines to follow here. Honestly, I prefer to see pictures as I can "get to know" the members here better. I am also a very visual person & tend to not be able to recognize people w/ their screen name alone. The signatures help me put 2 & 2 together.
Is there a moderator or administrator here that could answer this question for us rather than this turning into a debate? I would like to think that I am able to put what ever I like in the signature unless there are specific rules that do not allow this.

Listen, I don't like to argue but this isn't turning into a nice situation. Why would we talk to one another like this when it is hard enough to find a place EXCLUSIVELY for triplet moms & moms to be? I may be missing some history between some people here but this is a bit childish.
I just don't understand what the big deal is about the pictures?

No one said your siggy line was ugly but really it seems to be a competition around here who can have the bigger one. I'm saying it should be toned down. I find it distracting. I too am very proud to be a MOM & I think my kids are gorgeous but I keep it on the photo forum.

No bickering. There are just some people here who don't like others and they cannot play nice.
I wasn't calling you out and meant no harm to anyone.
Just want to know if I can have one too!
But then again I guess you should just do instead of ask permission! But that always got my butt beat growing up. So I tend to ask. Sorry!

Ahhhh...I just haven't been here long enough to understand the dynamics of the TC family. I suppose I'll catch on.
Are we suppose to ask permission to put stuff in our siggies? I didn't know that? I always play by the rules but didn't see any guidelines for the siggies.
Hey, if you want one, I'll make you one. I don't have anything better to do while on bedrest. It will take up my time.

Awe, thank you! I don't plan on removing it but felt compelled to reply to this question b/c I haven't been around here long & didn't know if I was breaking the rules.
IF there are NO rules being broken, I don't understand the problem. Honestly, I am proud of my belly, my triplets & want the world to see.
If this stalker guy wants a piece of this, go ahead...I have a 45 under the bed & a darn good aim. Otherwise, I am not going to feel pressured to take my picture off.

I may be wrong here, but I don't believe that anyone singled out Astrid in this post. The thing of question is the LARGE signature photos. Personally , I think they are very creative, HOWEVER, if you can create these things, than I am sure you can re-size tham as well. KWIM? Just make them smaller.

Tracy ~ I do not feel at all singled out. I follow rules when rules apply. If there is a limit in size or what we can put in the siggies, I will follow them. I just felt compelled to answer the thread b/c I do have a picture in mine. I don't want to step on anyone's toes or break policy.
I think it would be best if the admins jump in here & either tell us one way or the other. If we are allowed to put pictures, maybe the pixel amount should be specified.
For the record, although I know how to create these signatures, I did not create the one in mine. It was made for me thus I cannot resize it.

Thank you for finally bringing this up... To me it is all I see anymore when I sign on. It overshadows the question & the response. Really a place to have photos should be in the photo section only unless it is a small one like people use to have. I understand that you think it gives you some sort of visual of the person but to be quite honest we have had "belly" stalkers (yes people who get off on some of these type of photos) in the past & this is exactly what he will look for.

Is this a serious post or some kind of joke? I ask considering the picture that is in your siggy line.
I don't think there is anything wrong with it, and personally, it doesn't seem to cause a delay for me (as far as opening posts). I actually like to see the pictures

It is a serious question. I'm not trying to start a debate or make anyone feel bad.
I'm too computer stupid to make one of those siggies. I thought the photo would give everyone a giggle.
Guess not!
Before I got my DH to make me one I wanted to ask. I would hate for this to crash the forum. We did have problem with photos in the main forum once before.

I have to agree Amy. When I open a thread it takes a long time to scroll through the responses with the huge pictures. I guess the photo forum would be a better place to have photos. Sometimes it's difficult to find the person's message with all the clutter in the signature line.
That is one big belly you have there.

I have been considering and reconsidering things since last week. I'm not sure how many saw the ugly flame war that followed my post about being attacked by the woman who misunderstood completely and thought that I had left my babies unattended and locked in a sealed vehicle. But it got very nasty, and culminated with a comment being made about how much more manageable things were for me since I was only managing "two toddlers, not three." I was basically reamed as an incompetent mother with no excuses because I don't have all three of my babies. It was one of the most awful experiences I have had in a long time.
After making the comment, the poster then ridiculed me as misquoting her and commented about my signature line, indicating that some of them were suffering in silence instead and basically accusing me of being melodramatic in retaining the signature line in memory of Carina. Of course, I got a lot of private mails from people who were not willing to get involved in the thread but were so sorry and appalled at what had been said to me.
Of course, the whole thing was capped off by another person bumping up a write-up of the "I'm Leaving TC" sequence -- in response to this thread. This got posted after I completely stopped responding, and I felt like it was intended as a dig or goad to try to get me to leave.
Frankly, I have been so very hurt by this that I got a bit snotty with some of the same people on Friday, and I've pretty much stopped commenting on anything unless it relates to one of my good friends.
Anyway, I find that my grief is really hitting me again because the people who needed to put me down based upon my only having two babies have finally said the thing that I have always felt so deeply in my heart. I don't belong here. I'm not one of them. I paid the price and I walked away without my complete set of triplets. I long not only for Carina, but for their triplet-ness.
Since the comment has been made, I see the posts asking about how one does this, that or the other thing with triplets, and I have some great ideas and experiences in dealing with my babies all by myself, but I haven't responded. It's like my costume has been ripped off and I'm standing here exposed as some sort of fraud for pretending that I'm really a triplet mom whereas I am "only managing two toddlers, not three."
I'm wondering why I've bothered hanging on to this, and why I still cringe when people refer to my children as "twins." I'm wondering why I am sitting here weeping. I even noticed that I posted and then retracted my post because my expression of pain was just too raw -- and, as soon as I posted on the Bereaved Parents site, a whole herd came over to read my withdrawn post. It's like I'm uncomfortable in my own skin. I never thought I could feel this way at TC.
I don't want to lose this connection. My friends at TC have been so good to me, including all of my friends with three babies. But do they really understand? I just don't know.
I am so terribly upset about all of this. Talking with Steff sort of helped, and sort of hit me square in the face with the truth -- there's a part of me that is suffering from "triplet envy." Yes, I'm going through FET and YES I want another set of triplets. And this time I want to leave with all of my babies coming home with me.
I am just so incredibly sad right now. What am I missing? Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Or, even just give me some suggestions that will help me to feel better.
You guys mean the world to me and I know how terrible this must sound to my friends who lost not just one baby, but two or even three. I must sound incredibly selfish and thoughtless not to be joyful and grateful for the two babies I have. I am grateful for them and I love them to pieces. It's just that there is still this enormous, gaping hole.

Cat,
First let me say that I am sitting here sobbing. Not just for the ignorance of others, but for the fact that you may make the decision to no longer be here with us. I know I am not very close to you, but in the short time I've been here, you jumped in right after me and held my hand.
I have been through the anger of people calling Allen and Jesse (before he passed) twins, and now I have one. It's not wrong to want to shout it from the rooftops that our babies are infact triplets. The reason it took me so long to come here is that I thought I didn't belong because of our loss, but you as well as many others (here in this forum) welcomed me with open arms. What will happen when another mother or father gets the sand to come here, and you aren't here to share your wisdom, and support?
It is so awful at how your post was reacted to. I couldn't believe it really. Please don't let the ignorance of other people push you out of TC. You are not doing anything wrong Cat. You are missing your precious gift, and like you've told me, there is nothing wrong with that. It's alright to want the "triplet-ness." What is selfish is that another mother believes she is better that you because she has 3 and you have 2, and to go on that you can handle managing better that her because of that fact. That is selfish, not you Cat.
I don't know what to say to make you feel better, Cat. And maybe I am no better than others due to the small rant I let out here, but please don't leave TC.
You have been there for me, a perfect stranger, and others here. I hope I can be here for you now. I wish I could make you feel better with the blink of an eye.
One thing I can do is tell you that you are not selfish, and you don't come off ungreatful for your children. You are a wonderful person Cat, and a great friend.
Please let me know if I can do anything.

I haven't said the infamous "I'm leaving TC..." line. It's just that I feel so empty about this and so hurt. The truth is that that thread simply noted what I have felt all along -- like some kind of fraud for even being here. And the thing is that the only reason that I feel this way is because my baby died -- what a horrible reason for losing connection with an entire group of people that you have shared this incredible journey with.
I appreciate your concern for me, and your prayers. BTW, you have my e-mail address, and I think you even have my telephone number (for my office, that is, until I get my cell number transferred to a new phone)! And, if you don't, please let me know. I also consider us to be friends.

Cat,
I adore you to pieces!
I hope you don't let one rotten apple spoil it here for you.
You do belong here. Remember that saying, it goes:
"Once a triplet mom, always a triplet mom."
That's what you are, and always will be.
With regards to that horrible woman who threatened to call CPS on you, forget her! Seriously! There is one in every crowd. Again, some people have nothing better to do with their time. Plus, usually people like that have very unhappy lives.
I think we need to seriously get-together again and have some fun, as in blow off some steam!
Pizza on me, boy that was delic!
Huge hugs,

I am so very sorry that you were so hurt by the exchange. But the thing that you seem to be missing is that you saw what you wanted (or didn't want) to see in the post about "two, not three". It touched a nerve in you because of what you have been through, not because of the original poster's intention. It does both of you a disservice to assume such malice.
That being said, I don't think that anyone here would deny that you are a triplet mom or say that you don't belong. There may be people who disagree with you on other subjects, but I sincerely doubt that anyone here wants you to leave because they think you don't belong. You've made it clear that sometimes you feel that way, but I don't believe that anyone here is so heartless toward others as to feel that way themselves.
I hope that you can find some peace on this matter as it relates to the TC board and I also hope that you can see that I am not trying to attack you.
I wish you peace.

Set 27 2006 Mods response to Mandy outing
Obviously, Mandie's account has been deleted and blocked by Jeff. Jeff was going to post about this subject this morning but someone beat him to it. This board and it's members are better than that so please drop the issue. You are only feeding into her little world by talking about her. Yes, she duped a lot of people, even me for a bit but something in my heart said not all of her story was true. I will let Jeff explain. Please do not post about Mandie any longer as we have bigger and better things to take care of. A BIG THANK YOU to the slueths who uncovered her dirty little secrets. Any future posts concerning Mandie will be pulled. Please PM myself or Jeff if there are issues about her as she can still creep on the board.
Thanks!

I know that you do not want us to talk about this on the forum and I completely understand that, but I do know that, as someone who was very emotionally invested in this person, it has been almost therapeutic for me to talk to others so that I can actually move on instead of dwell on it.
If anyone has questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have no desire to cause added drama or to speak ill of this person, but if you would like access to the facts so that you can have some closure, I would be more than happy to chat with you.
Thank you Tiffani and Jeff (as well as countless others) for working so hard to keep Triplet Connection a safe and secure place for all of us here. We appreciate you!

Hi Valerie,
Please email me I can't find your email address. I just sent her some clothes and things from my kids last year that I was going to sell at my mom to mom sale this weekend because I had no money to send her but I figured that she could use the clothes and thing so I sent those to her. I just want to know if you know what she is going to do with all that stuff if she has no kids. I am so mad. I pmed Tiffani a few days ago after I sent her the stuff because I just did not feel right about it but I refused to think she was a faker because I was once accused of passing my "twins" off as surviving triplets so I gave her the benifit of the doubt. I am so stupid...

Can you email me, I would like to get the facts from you so. I'm a moderator on the new MOST forums and I think they should be aware of this. Mandie posted on their before they changed over to their new forums but not sure whatever happened with that.
I am so sorry that something like this has happened to you. You have every right to be upset.

Sad that we all opened our hearts and some our wallets to her and yet not surprising in hindsight...it's amazing what you "see" when you think back on something once it's exposed...I had some suspicions for awhile when emailing back and forth with her, but was giving the benefit of the doubt since she'd been around for so long...I don't usually fall for people, but this time I did and it just reconfirms why I don't like to help people I don't know...even though I want to and would give what I had to help someone else be a little better off...sad, just really sad that someone is that desperate or off to take it to this extreme...Does she get the award for longest and most consistent faker?? She has my vote!

I'm curious also... (she had no triplets or no financial probs?)
I've given to others on this board (financially, and baby stuff) though not to Mandie, and am curious as to how she was found out.
It is very disheartening, though not surprising, that people would do this! Unfortunately it will make people think twice about helping others on this board in the future.

No we had one other that was here for a couple years if I remember, two actually. One that turned out to be a teenage girl (who admitted it over the phone and then in email after being confronted by a board member. I believe someone spoke to her parents as well, but don't hold me to that.
The other was I am not sure was here as long but had an elaborate story of loss and faked both the husband and wife account. One of them was supposed to be in the military and had lost a spouse in a plane crash. The recount of the story of the crash on the bereavement was discovered as a fictional story somewhere else, word for word. This one also admitted it after being confronted.
Those were two long standing that emotional coned many many members. Not sure which disgusts me more, the financial con or emotional one.

Sept 26 2006 The outing of 9weekscounting (Mandy)
9weekscounting"
OK, so there seems to be some discrepancy with this girl's story.
I am sure most of you know that I helped her out with the electricity issue a couple of weeks ago. I also sent some things (diapers, formula, clothes) for the babies.
This evening I received an email from another member that has helped her and they said that Mandie told her this weekend that the power had been turned off again. If the power was back on last week (or week before)as posted by Mandie and she told me this in a text message, it does not make sense for it to be off again already - it has been my experience that at least one billing cycle would pass.
Also, looking back - when ever I spoke to her on the phone I never heard any babies in the background. Now at my house, you always hear someone in the background.
If any of you are considering sending her money or things for the babies - please be careful. Something is not right. I know there were a few ladies that contacted me directly to offer help - I appologize to you. I feel like I aided her in conning everyone.
Also, she has not contacted me since last Tuesday when she rec'd the package I sent. Her phone # is no longer working and according to the member that contacted me earlier today the email address is not longer working.
I felt like you guys should know.
Jes

I was going to wait until I was absolutely, 100% positive of all the information that I have been gathering (which I can pretty much say that I am), but since Jes has already made a post, I felt like I should chime in and share what I have found out over the course of the last week.
Mandie came across my family website at the end of last July and sent me an e-mail. She informed me that she had just found out that she was pregnant with triplets and had come across my website while searching the internet and hoped that I might be able to help her through her pregnancy. I contacted her and we began e-mailing and calling back and forth. I told her about the Triplet Connection (although I have a good feeling she already knew about it) and she became a member. I never once questioned her until she mentioned in early January that she had been accused of being a faker on another board (this was around the same time that we had a rash of fakers here so I was very paranoid). I asked her which board it was so that I could "set the record straight" but she never gave me the name. I searched the internet but could find nothing. I found out recently that I just didn't search with the right user name (I was searching with Mandie Clark, 9weekcounting and her e-mail address. . .she was using waitingforthree and the message board was babynamesworld.com). I read back through all of our e-mails, all of her posts here and I could not find any inconsistencies so I just let it go (although there was always a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right).
*Sorry! This is going to be a novel! Can you tell I am a little upset!?*
After her babies were born, we did not keep in touch as well. Again, I didn't think much of it because I assumed that she was busy. It was also the same time that she and Matt began having financial problems and were without a phone and a computer. Like many other people here, I was extremely sympathetic towards her (she was my friend after all) and so I sent her money, paid some of their bills, and sent diapers, and other baby-related items to help them out.
Fast forward to the past few weeks. When Mandie came onto the boards to announce that she was pregnant again and then that she was expecting twins, several people expressed their concerns to Tiffani that she was a fake. Tiffani confronted Mandie and Mandie told Tiffani that I would vouch for her. Tiffani e-mailed me to ask me what I knew and I told her (at this point I still believed that Mandie was genuine although my doubt was beginning to grow).
About a week ago, I got a message in my TC inbox from a random person telling me that Mandie was not who she was claiming to be. She told me that Mandie had in fact delivered triplets on January 8, 2006, but that they had been stillborn. She told me that this was fact and that she had proof. She did not provide proof or a name so of course I was VERY skeptical. I contacted Tiffani and together we searched for more information. Using this persons e-mail address, I was able to find out what her name was, several of her websites, her address, phone number, etc. (gotta love the internet). It turns out that she was from the very same town that Mandie was from in Illinois.
Well, to make this extremely long and frustrating story a bit shorter, the person who contacted me turned out to be the next door neighbor of Mandie's parents and she had come onto TC at Mandie's mothers request because her parents were concerned about her.
The person who e-mailed me provided me with the names and phone number of Mandie's parents and I have talked to them several times in the past few days. Here is what I have learned:
According to Mandie's mother, Mandie was in fact pregnant with triplets, but on January 8, 2006 took a bad fall getting out of the shower. She was taken to the local hospital but they were not equipped to deal with the emergency so she was rushed to another hospital. By the time they were able to deliver the babies, they were all deceased. Mandie told her mother that, because they could not afford a funeral they donated the babies bodies to science to be used for stem cell research and this is why they have no pictures of them, etc.
She then told her mother that, 10 days after delivering her triplets, she became pregnant with identical twins due October 2, 2006 (these are the twins that we know to be due April 16, 2007). This was the reason her mother had asked her neighbor to come to TC. Mandie had sent her mother ultrasound pictures of her pregnancy with the triplets as well as pictures of her pregnant, but had not done so with her twin pregnancy and so, knowing that Mandie posted here, she was hoping that she could find some information here. When the person checking into this saw that Mandie had told us that her twins were not due until April and that she was claiming that her triplets were still alive, she sent me an e-mail.
Her mother told me A LOT of things that I do not have the time to write here, but there is not a doubt in my mind that Mandie is a faker (and apparently a pretty good one since she has been in our midst since last July!). Although she told her mother that she had been pregnant with triplets, after hearing the details, I highly doubt that she ever was.
I feel extremely hurt, betrayed and frustrated as I am sure that MANY of you do. I also feel very much responsible for directing her here. I know that there are many of us here that have helped her out financially and I am so sorry!
Again, I apologize that this is so long, but I felt very strongly that everyone here should know the truth as we are all victims of this person.
Tiffani and Jeff are aware of all of this and Mandie has already been banned from Triplet Connection.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail or pm.
Valerie

I was really hoping that you would chime in!
This girl really seems to have problems. I also doubted if there were every any triplets, but when going back through some old posts she did post some u/s pics - granted I don't know if they are real or hijacked from someone else.
Thanks for filling in some holes for me!

Jes-
I am glad that I could fill in the gaps for you! I am so sorry that you were a victim of this as well. I still cannot believe that I was so blind to all of this. But honestly, I probably read and reread every e-mail and post a million times and she was always very consistent, even in our phone conversations. She was a very good con-artist. It just goes to show that not every faker is as obvious as some of the ones that we have dealt with in the past.
UGH!

Did you find it odd that her babies weights were the exact same as yours? I didn't until looking back.
Also, she said one had a brain bleed but never mentioned anything else about it. I find that odd (of course hind sight is 20/20)
My gut instinct was that it didn't smell right either, but I also could not live with myself if it had been true and I didn't do anything to help. Like I have told several others that pm'd me - all I could see was my babies living in the conditions she described.
Thanks again Val!

Jes-
I honestly think that she used me for a lot more than friendship and financial gain. Not only were her babies weights the same as mine, but they were also due just two days before mine, she happend to have conceived her babies on her first round of Clomid just like me, she seemed to have developed the exact same complications throughout her pregnancy as I did, and the list goes on and on.
I have felt uneasy about her since just before her babies were born and that feeling has never really gone away. Looking back, I noticed that, after her babies were born, she rarely ever talked about them and that was just unusual. I mean, I have a hard time having any kind of conversation without mentioning my kids. They are my life.
I could go on and on about all of the things that stand out to me now, but like you said, hindsight is 20/20!!
You know, when all of this first came to light I was not angry or frustrated that I had helped her out (financially and otherwise). She needed the help (and her mom varifies that she did). I do the same with beggars on the street. I don't know whether the money I give them will be used for food or for alcohol, but I am not the judge of that. I choose to let God be the judge. I still am not really mad about the money. I am angry and frustrated that she abused my friendship and my trust. That is what hurts more than anything.

Absolutely! I know I did the right thing in helping whether she was truly in need or not. The money and items can be replaced - but my trust in people will be hard to restore! I am more angry over the emotional turmoil I have felt over the past couple of weeks worrying about these kids that may have never even existed! That ticks me off!

So, let me get this right...she never was even pregnant with triplets? When I read that bit earlier about her having given birth to stillborn triplets, I felt so awful for her. I have (as I just pm'd Jestrips) for some time now been very skeptical of the financial stuff. And I didn't believe she was now pregnant with twins (assumed it was another ploy for getting money from kind folks here). But I felt so horrible for what she had experienced and figured it was just the manifestation of enormous grief.
Now I'm just mad.

Monica-
After the first phone conversation with her mother, I too thought that she was probably just so wracked with grief that this was the way it manifested itself and so I actually felt sympathy towards her. I also just couldn't believe that, if she had not actually been pregnant with triplets, that she would have been able to be so consistent and so accurate in her descriptions of her triplet pregnancy.
After speaking with her mom again however, and hearing some of the details surrounding their birth, I found it VERY hard to believe that she was telling the truth. Although I cannot say for certain that she was not ever pregnant with triplets, I feel very strongly, after all the information that I have received, that she never was.

The thing that sort of swayed me back to belief for a bit was when she was reaching out to another TC'er from Louisiana...wanting to get together. I kept wondering why she'd be trying to do that if she wasn't legit.
She was very good. Of course, if she'd been reading triplet websites (I'm soooo glad I recently password protected our blog)...she's educated herself well.
I'm so sorry you (and others) have had to go through this emotional ordeal. It really breaks my heart to think that anyone could be sick enough to pretend something like that. And if she is acting out of grief, I pray that she has the support system in place to help her through it all.
Thank you for doing the detective work and for protecting our "sanctuary" here at TC.

You know, it was the same thing that kept me from doubting her for so long. She always seemed to be so willing to meet up with people, including me. In fact, she contacted me about a week ago to say that she, Matt and the babies would be going to visit her mother in Illinois in October and that they wanted to come and visit my family as well. I'm sure she would've come up with a good excuse as to why she couldn't make it when the time came, but that is what kept me believing that she was legit!
It gives me the chills to think of what might have happend if she had actually come to visit. It still does. Makes me want to sleep on the floor of my babies' nursery just to make sure that they are safe.
She definitely did her research that is for sure.

You know...in light of recent news stories...I'd be very freaked out to think of her visiting, too. Wow...you just never know anymore. It's sad. And scary. I hate that fear of things like that forced me to password protect my site. I loved that I got emails from women all around the world who found comfort and encouragement in my story. I didn't want to have to take that away, but I have to protect my family. KWIM? Situations like this make me know I made the best choice. It's chilling indeed.
I can't sleep. I just went and read many of her posts on the other site where she faked. It's amazing actually. Just amazing.

It scares me to think that she knows so much about me and my family. She knows all of our names, my phone number, my address, etc. The thought that has kept creeping into my mind over the past week is, what if she really did lose her triplets and in her grief, came here and tried to take mine? I know that that is probably me just being very paranoid, but the thought just makes me want to throw up. I have probably checked on my kids about 20 times per night over the past few days and I definitely cannot sleep. . at least not soundly.
I guess it just scares me to know that there really are people like that out there and that I let one of the people into my life. We will probably be password protecting our family website very shortly.

Thank you so much, and thanks to the others who did the detective work, too, for helping those of us who were at least emotionally invested in Mandie *and her babies* to know it's time to change the focus of our concerns.
I understand why you would be feeling so paranoid, and in this day & age it is sometimes justifiable. If it helps you sleep better at night, may I suggest that you get some kind of simple system for the doors or window(s) in your childrens' room? Like, some bells on a rope, or one of those "it goes off if the contact is broken" kind of alarms? Simple, cheap, and worth the peace of mind.
I have to say that I, too, was wondering how someone with little babies could be spending time at the library on the computer.

Thanks for the suggestions Tulip!! It is definitely worth the peace of mind to invest in some kind of an alarm system and, because of this situation, there is no doubt in my mind that we will! The thought of something happening to my little ones just makes me physically ill.
I have to say, I also wondered quite a bit how she could be at the library with three babies on such a regular basis. First, most libraries discourage the use of their computers for things like instant messaging and forums. In fact, most libraries have those items blocked. But what really had me perplexed was how she could have three babies at the library. . a place that is known for quiet, without being asked to leave. My babies were not overly fussy by any means, but we have always avoided overly quiet places because, when they get going, they are LOUD!! It just never did add up in my mind!

Oh Valerie-What a lot you have been through with this whole situation. It is amazing how people can be so awful and terribly manipulative.
You are a WONDERFUL person and I know you have helped many other people. I am SO SO SO very sorry that you and others have been taken advantage of her. There are several of us that have suspected that something just wasn't quite right with the whole situation. It's such a tough world we live in. For one point it great that we have such a wonderful on-line community and on the other we have to worry about our lives being invaded by strangers.
What a terribly hard ordeal that Mandie has gone through. I can't imagine having lost my precious babies and I'm sure that the mental strain that is causing her to do these things is enermous. I can only hope that her parents and her dh are able to get her the help she needs.
Huge, Huge Hugs to you for your honesty and your bravery in this very difficult situation.

HOw annoying!!! NOt for nothing, but I befriended her while she was pregnant also and sent her clothing and exchanged a couple of emails. I stopped exchanging emails with her when she sent me a pic of her belly. Sorry, but when someone I really dont "know" sends me a belly shot and then asks for one of mine, I get weirded out (call it paranoia).
P.S., after she "delivered" I also sent some stuff down w/a little money because she was having financial issues - ALL THE WHILE thinking - if you have so many financial issues - how can you be in the computer so often, have internet service instead of food for your children??? (this was before she said the power was going to be turned off or losing her apt., etc.). I would always tell my husband - this woman is not genuine.. and look... boy oh boy...
People like this really ruin it for others who TRULY need support and/or help. How dissapointing!!!

Wow.. this post shouldn't be pulled because it is a good reminder/lesson learned type thing. So many people on TC were so generous and went on blind faith. How sad.

INTERESTING! you know, it's funny but I havebeen following her story very closely as it jsut didnt pass the 'smell' test for me. I too sent her baby stuff, but something in me told me not to send as much as she acted like she needed. Im glad I didnt. Still I felt like a sucker even as I packed it up. isnt womens intuition funny that way?
wow. what a fascade. I didnt believe the twins thing, but wow...the triplets too!

Well, this is what I sent because I felt for her situation and the kiddos 2 huge boxes containing:
8 canisters of powdered formula, baby wipes, baby clothes, socks, onsies, jars of baby food, baby juices, baby cereals, teething items, baby spoons & bowls, baby bath items, bibs, baby washcloths, and a phone card since she didn't have any minutes on her cell phone. Oh yea, and I paid for her hotel room for a few nights.
I sure hope that she really needed it or knew someone that did because if I find out for sure otherwise, it will be sad that she really messed up someone else that may have needs down the road and people like me will be reluctant to help so quickly.

I am so sorry Sondi!! What a WONDERFUL person you are to have helped her so much. You truly have an incredible heart. I am sorry that you were also taken advantage of.
If it makes you feel any better, in talking to her mom, their financial concerns are definitely legit (at least for the most part) so I do think that they needed the help you provided in that way. As for the baby items, if she truly did lose her triplets and was holding onto them by posting the way she did here, it probably made her feel better to have the baby items around.
You will definitely be blessed for opening your heart to someone in need. I am just sorry that you and others were taken advantage of in this way, especially because it makes us much more hesitant the next time around.

I don't believe this...
Perhaps I didn't know her that well since I usually just glance at posts and not at who's actually writing the post but I've never seen anything that was inconsistent in her "stories". Everything sounded real and hey - just like what my babies were going through.
On another note, if Mandie is suffering from depression over the loss of her triplets, then I really hope she does not have access to this post. I had a really close friend back in my senior year of high school who suffered from depression after one of the friends that she met online and grew really close to committed suicide. Only after she was hospitalized did we find out that she also had schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, and OCD, along with severe depression.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm worried that if Mandie has "issues" that may require medical attention, she'll see this post and begin to dwell on it and make things worse.
Tiffany - is there anyway you can hide this post so that she doesn't view it?

Jes,
I'm not ashamed that I sent all the stuff. I just wanted to help somebody that supposedly needed help. If I am in a position that I can help someone that really needs it I will. And it sounded like that she needed the help. Believe me though, next time, I will have to think long and hard about it and do some research and make sure things are legit before I do. I have learned my lesson.

First, for being brave enough to say something I've been thinking for a few weeks.
Second, thank you for researching her.
I was also one of the "suckers" who tried to help - my red flag went up when she thanked her "angels"... and when she spent ALL DAY on the computer with me from the "library"..
I am sorry I did not say anything sooner, but I didn't want to point fingers... my bad... - I should have yelled "fire", when I smelled smoke

I am truly sorry for all of you that gave your heart, your prayers, and your finanical support to Mandie. Just because she isn't the good person she portrayed herself as doesn't diminish the love you all demonstrated. Your generous hearts are an asset to our world. WOW ...do you all remember me asking her to check her in box a few weeks ago???I NEVER heard back from her.I was going to pay her entire electric bill X 2....that way it would be on and stay on for a while...the only thing was I wanted to contact the electric co and do it directly.......guess that is why I never heard back.
AMAZING ......

I didnt believe the twins thing, but wow...the triplets too!
she's good. she even asked about the vitamin vanilla coating...

I'd just like to say Thank You!

Wow, talk about commitment! She certainly stuck with her story.
I am truly sorry for all of you that gave your heart, your prayers, and your finanical support to Mandie. Just because she isn't the good person she portrayed herself as doesn't diminish the love you all demonstrated. Your generous hearts are an asset to our world. Big pat on the back for trying to help out a person in need.

Absolutely! And I hope and pray that this farce doesn't make any of us less likely to help the next person in need.
Mandie is in need. Maybe not the way she said or the way we though, but if she went to all the trouble to do all of this...there is a need there.
Just wanted to say that I'm very proud to be a part of such a kind & generous group of folks.

I feel sorry for her. Maybe she is depressed and this is her way of coping? Maybe she needs help. I hope her parents will help her get the help she needs after speaking with others.

I sent stuff too. I'm always such a sucker for stories like hers. It makes me feel good to feel like I'm helping someone. Right now, I just feel like I was taken advantage of.
