Sept 9 2008 Continuation of "I don't believe in preemies"

I said I may jump around a bit as I found things. I never planned on starting a blog as I saved these posts. Only saved them for my own reference as stories changed as posts were pulled.

Anyway back to the posts. If you have been reading I posted a thread about a lady who came to TC who "doesn't believe in preemies" and planned on letting her babies die if they were born premature. This caused a heated thread. Janet pulled the thread and a "Be Kind" thread was posted. That got pulled also which lead to this thread.

Hey Julie,

Yep, you missed something huge. Click on the link to my blog, and about 3 posts down you'll get the rundown of what happened. Someone came on here saying awful things about preemies, and then we all got kicked in the gut by Janet. It was just lovely...full story on my blog.

All I can say is wow. I just read your blog MSTAR and I belong to a preemie group online and I was wondering if I could post what she said on there. Many of those woman have had babies as young as 23 weeks. Its a great site as well. called inspire.com.

I put my boys through their surgeries because they never gave me a sign that they wanted to give up. I was told by a nurse at UCSD that there are some states that will only go so far in treating preemies thankfully we are not in one of those states.

I also wanted to add that i would have given my life if it meant that Alex would survive. I miss my baby boy and wonder everyday what he would be doing today if he were here.

MTM, I flat out disagree. No one is talking around a lunch table ABOUT people, posts were made TO the managers and they just delete them. I can't get over how many posts have been deleted by the managers in some bizarre dictatorship fashion. No negative discussions allowed! That's the rule here! Don't you dare question the actions of your managers!

In some ways, I think it must be nice for them. "Hey, someone posted something bad about the way we run things here! Let's go delete it so that no one else realizes they might be right!"

Stay or go you say? A link was posted yesterday for those who want to post elsewhere in addition to this board and guess what? That was deleted too! What a shocker!

I only had a chance to briefly read the original post and only apparently the first part of it, before it was pulled, and then a few of the posts this morning on the 'be kind post' It is really disheartening to see that the be kind post was pulled too- I don't know how many responses it got but the ones I read were from people who had very valid points on why they were so upset. I was active on another board for kids with some of Braden's health problems and the moderators were very controlling, so I left there. How sad that is happening here too.

I'm sorry girls. I am sure that Janet and Jeff are just trying to figure out the best way to address this. Give them time. Surely this won't be ignored. They know how deeply the members of this site were offended by the comments of this poster. And I am sure, by now, they understand how important their involvement is when responding to concerns of this type. In the meantime, know that you are supported.

Jes, I am putting faith in the management of this site. I believe they will right the wrong with this one. Too many are hurt and too many responded to the "Be Kind" post for them to turn a blind eye. There was a misstep, which has blackened the eye of TC. Janet knows the importance of emotional support to parents of premature children. They will step up.

Right, Janet?

I just can NOT believe what I saw in the "Be Kind" post.

I was lucky enough to have take home triplets, but a very good friend of mine had to watch two of her babies die, and when I saw those comments I was just *furious*. To have moderators side with such monsterous comments was just so upsetting to me. I can't imagine what mom's of micro-preemies felt.

You all are pulling a trick that my husband uses and I absolutely hate it. You have no idea to what depth I HATE IT.

What all of you are doing is the equivalent of sitting at a lunch table in Junior High with the person at a table accross the room and making comments *just* loud enough for you to know that the object of your comments is able to hear them, and its because you don't have the guts to direct your comments directly to the person.

Passive agressive attacks on people are juvenile, and rude. (And yes my husband is both, virtually all of the time)

If you are upset with Janet, then try emailing Janet directly.

Go, Don't go. Stay, don't Stay;

Just please drop it from the board, and start emailing Janet and Jeff directly. I'm getting tired of seeing this stuff every time I log in. I've known Janet for a very very very very long time. I've talked to her on the phone and you know what... SO COULD YOU. Janet is one of the kindest, most sympathetic persons that you would want to know. I'm betting that she feels absolutely horrible about what has transpired and has no idea how to rectify the situation.

I know you all are hurting, and the OP's comments hurt me too, but is hurting someone elses feelings making it okay for you? Is that what you want your children to learn?

If your post was directed at me, I would like to respectfully offer my two-fold response.
A. The forum chosen for this concern was not done so by the posters in protest. Janet chose to make a public address to the members of TC, to which the members of TC responded accordingly. This could have been handled via emails with the original poster, who so grossly and intentionally offended our valued TC members. Yet instead, management chose to side against the mother's of premature children who were greatly wronged in the process. Nothing is being said "just loud enough" to be overheard by management, in a passive aggressive manner. I think, if anything, things are being said extremely loudly and directly to management, to ensure that the concerns raised by valued TC members have been heard.
2. Clearly Janet is kind hearted and sympathetic. That is not in question here. This was a misstep. We all have them. As an example, my hat speech. A gross misstep. The opening of that "very threatening can" in one of my previous posts, again, clearly a misstep on my behalf. I am likewise kind hearted and sympathetic. But in my years on TC, my track record is riddled with missteps. Choosing to support a new member who viciously attacked long standing TC members and used emotionally abusive language in a blatant attempt to hurt the feelings of our most treasured moms, was a misstep. Not a misstep that should cause members to leave TC. But certainly, a misstep that has deeply hurt and offended so many. Janet publically supported the ignorant and offensive poster and all the valued members of TC are looking for is that same show of support.

If this was not directed at me, could you let me know that please? I have a much more aggressive post prepared in defense of our valued members. I have terribly thick skin and it takes so much more than ignorance and vulgarity to effect me. If I felt someone attacked my child or diminished their value in this world, I would be missteppin' all over the place. I understand the plight of those affected by this heinous poster and I hope that management acknowledges the same.

I read the blog from kristim81 and I all can say is oh my. I am glad I did not see that post or I would have went off. My little guys were 26.5 weekers. We were asked to terminate the Id's but we reufused. We do not regret or decision at all and we have two beautiful surviving boys. The only thing kristim81 missed was how it feels to hold your son as he takes his last breaths because he could not hang on any longer. The nerve of people. I have yet to read the other blog but I will after I feed the baby.

This will bump it up to the top again, but since at the moment 9:34 my time, its post number 3, it won't change it much.

There was an additional post after mine, about 20 minutes later, so I'm not the only one to blame for the post lingering at the top.
