#332579, "At what point is it an unhealthy obsession"

Sorry to be the one to bring this topic to the top of the list, but I am just curious...at what point can you say, posting and replying to posts over and over is becoming an unhealthy obsession.

I have noticed many questions lately that can be asked and answered by common sense and it bugs the bajeezus out me to see the forum so cluttered up with nonsense. I am not naming names or being rude, in fact the opposite, I see this site as a forum to help those who need the advice and help.

But seriously- at what point do you say enough is enough- do your homework, relax, ask a few relevant to your gestation or same age group questions, wait a reasonable amount of time for replies and chill out?

An intervention is definitely necessary in some cases. What can I do to help?

You are really rude and totally uncalled for. Certainly there's a more polite way than using words like obsession and neurotic. Fine. I'll just not come online again. Sorry to inconvenience you with my questions. I'm just excited about our good news. And i had no where else to turn for information. It's not like I can ask my mom or my friends what to expect, it's completely different.

Nobody here is being rude to you. People are trying to help you and you're refusing the help. Instead, I think you're trying to disprove all of us and drive yourself into even more hysterics.

I say its an unhealthy obession when it seems like all you need to do is hit "refresh" and there's another post....

Or, the question has already been answered a million and one times (including by yourself) and yet you get an e-mail asking the very same question.

The true question is, can an intervention be successfully done without causing a flounce?

I have to say that any question people want to ask should be asked. Some of us just don't have time to research. Many visit this forum for much needed advice. I know at times I have felt like my questions are stupid due to the remarks of some. I tend not to ask much because of that. It makes me upset that a new triplet mom feels like a bother on this board. JMO. Anyway, I am probl ocd about the board myself. Only bc I get a lot of answers from it.

The original poster did not say to NOT ask questions, but to do the research prior to asking some obvious, easily self-answered questions. It seems as though sometimes a person(s) wants to make this a personal blog instead of a support forum for everyone.

There is a difference between asking a question and asking a question, answering it on your own and giving anecdotes along with it, KWIM??

Part of the research is done by asking BTDT moms and looking for real life stories. Statistics can be scary. This whole thing is scary. And if you hit refresh and people are posting every few minutes, maybe they are bored, on bed rest and worried about their situation and looking to reach out to someone who can shed some light and hope on what they might face. I know I've been there and I'll bet I'll be there again before this is over.

I hope I don't start second guessing everything I post so that it doesn't look obsessive.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking other women who have already been through an extremely nervous and exciting time for advice.
There is all kinds of advice out there on the internet that really shouldn't be trusted and it might help by asking real people rather than reading a book.
I thought this forum was supposed to be for expecting moms and HOM moms to get support.

ANDIGIRL..I say ask any question you want. And if you feel this forum isn't a good place for you, I'd be happy to answer any question you have. I might not know the answer but I'll try.
I will admit that some of your posts make me think to myself, 'girl relax'. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't ask them. You are a first time mom-to-be and expecting triplets at that it's no wonder you don't know where to start. Take care of yourself, try to relax and keep the questions coming.

What a ridiculous post this is! Did you do your research before you posted this! This forum is for any questions related to having triplets and moms can ask whatever they want . I am so tired of all the rude posts and replys that happen all the time. But seriously - you chill out. People can post and reply as much as they want that is what forums are for. I have been using this site even before I had my trio and have never heard of such a post as this. It seems the site has changed and people have become more inconsiderate.

Also the TC has been a life saver for me and always has been a hugh help before and after I had my trio. Sorry to other moms about my rude post..I just can't keep quiet anymore especially when I have to read this garbage.

#71559, "Upset with WIC (VENT)"

We have always had a WIC person come to our home to recertify us. But now that my kids are two-years old WIC is hassling me about doing a home visit. They are "this close" to insisting that I bring the children in to the office for recertification. I am in a near-panic. There's no way this can happen with me by myself.

1 - If it's raining they'll get completely soaked, both coming & going. It takes some time to load the kids in/out of the stroller, and during that time if it's raining they'll just get drenched. BTDT, it's not right to do it to them again. No way am I going to make them sit around in wet clothes & hair.

2 - Even if we get there, what am I going to do, force them to sit in the stroller while we wait for Lord knows how long in the reception area, then wait (still strapped in) while we meet with whomever about our qualifications? Like three 2-year olds are going to do THAT without protest? Of course I wouldn't even dream of letting them out of the stroller because I couldn't keep them under control, and I know Hope would freak out & scream & cry & attach herself to me like glue (she always does this whenever we're somplace new).

I don't know why, but this has made me so deeply angry today. It's bad enough they want me to take them somewhere and expose them to people who probably have sick kids or are sick themselves (sorry, but seems like most "poor" folks like us don't have the best of health or personal sanitation practices). But to force us to endure something like this is an extreme hardship, if you ask me. It's upsetting enough to still need WIC in the first place, but to make us go somewhere that I know in advance will be an extremely upsetting, unpleasant experience for my kids is sending me over the edge.

Aw, Tulip - aren't government offices the WORST??
I got a note from our pedi saying that he did not want them exposed to the kind of stuff that is likely floating around the WIC office, and they accepted that. I don't have to ever bring them in to get recertified.

EDITED TO ADD: I didn't clarify - I go in, but the kids don't have to. The pedi said that due to their prematurity, they shouldn't be in a public health office, so he gave me a note stating the same, with their weights and lengths for the WIC folks to put in our file.

Tulip:

Not to sound insensitive, but I am very surprised that they have been recertifying you at home for this long. WIC budgets are getting tighter and tighter and the cost of providing services go up exponentially when home visits are provided. Having worked in public health for many years, we were losing WIC providers because the reimbursement wasn't sufficient to deliver the services. I think you will encounter other parents in the WIC office that have 3+ children who have found a way to make their appointments.

Good luck,

Thank you for your insensitive reply to my vent. I doubt seriously if I would find many WIC mothers who have three children all under the age of two, not unless each child had an 8-month gestation and the mother got pregnant in less than a month of giving birth each time. And certainly if she did have three children under the age of two not all three of them would be mobile.

I agree with Lisa and I don't think her comment was insensitive in any manner. From my experience with WIC, you are lucky they have ceritifed you at home for as long as they have. Other people have to bring their kids in, so should you.

You know, THIS is why I don't use TC as an avenue when I need support. I can post thousands of positive things for other people, go out of my way to help others, but when *I* need a little support, or if *I* need a "safe place" to vent, I can't do it here. I should have known better than to even think I could vent at TC! I'm such a fool. This is not the first time that I've come here to express frustration or some other irritating tidbit about being a mother to triplets, but it's certainly my last. Each time I've done so I've been peppered by people who "don't mean to be insensitive" or are quick to make snippy comebacks. I hesitated to even put up this vent because I suspected there would be someone, probably more than one someone, who would not be supportive.

Just because we have a differing opinion does not make us insensitive or unsupportive.
When we did WIC, I had to fight to not bring them in their first RSV season, and after those first few months I always had to bring them in. I was alone as well. There's a difference between not bringing in newborns who are at high-rish for RSV and not bringing in two-year-olds because it will inconvenience the mother. If you choose to participate in these programs, it just kind of goes with the territory. So, you can either choose to be upset about it or be glad you made it two years without bringing them in. But there is really no need to be in a near-panic. You will do what all triplet moms do - load them up, brings snacks and books to entertain, and use purell on their hands. Good luck.

Hi Tulip,

Just wanted to agree with you on this point. I have asked a very simple question and was bombarded with a bunch of parents who didn't think I should even *ask* such a question. SO... I am sorry you have gotten the responses you did. It sucks. I know you're just venting, and I hope you find some of the other posts were helpful.

You will always find people in the world who are insensitive. There are people who are better off, and worse off, than you. There will always be people who can hurt your feelings no matter what they say. I, of course, would not be so forgiving should it happen to me because it's always different when you're on the other side of the "abuse", but I just wanted to let you know that not everyone is out to hurt you (intentionally or not), and I hope that you (and I) will be able to post here in the future for a vent... and just ignore the responses you don't like

Tulip,

All 4 of my kids were on WIC for the first 4 years and I always took them in with me. I had no choice. I took them to recertify and when I had to just pick up the vouchers. The kids weren't always happy to be there but that was life! I had 4 kids under 2 for awhile but we did survive the trips.

Tulip- sorry about your WIC situation. I wanted to share my experience. After the girls were born I went to the WIC office to see about qualifications, etc. When I got there I was reading a brochure and it said that the children had to come in every so often for an iron test. I went through the roof. No way was I going to do this. So when they call my name, I asked the put-out information taker about the shots and she refused to give me the info and was continuing with the standard info. A nicer lady spoke up and said that the shots were required, so I just left. A friend of mine had triplets recently and I know she got a letter from her physician about her babies delicate health and doesn't have to go it. I don't think they do any type of home visit here. Sorry it was a rough time for you. I got a jurt duty letter in the mail in October and if they call me for the first intial meeting I had planned on taking the girls with me but since they did not get the flu shot I hesitate taking them in...ugh
Hope it gets better for you and you can find a common ground with the WIC dept.

I totally understand. When mine were just shy of a month old they tried to get me to bring them into the office even after I told them about the fact that they were premature and at risk foe sickness. Even after I got a note from their doc, I was still given a hassle because they didnt have them there to get their weights.
Would you be able to get a Doc notice saying you are unable to bring them in?
I was shocked at how some of the parents at the WIC office just let their kids cough all over eachother and put their mouths on chairs and toys. I wanted so badly to tell them "Dont you know that there are germs all over that stuff?" At times I was just itching to pick some of those kids up off the floor and wipe their hands with the antibacterial wipes I carry in my purse.}>
Hope you can get this resolved.

I do not think anyone is being insensitive, if it is raining and you are afraid of your kids getting wet then cancel and reschedule. With that being said I do not take my kids to the WIC office with the exception of one time due to my kids being 32 weekers and coming home on monitors, having asthma etc. The pedi gives me a note with their weights, heights etc and I take the note in and have my mom watch my kids. As far as I know Tulip your kids were not really that premature, have no health issues so what is the problem with taking them? I take my kids to speech therapy everyweek and they sit in the stroller for 1 1/2 hrs while I occupy them with snacks, books, little toys. Each baby gets out of the stroller for 30 minutes, but they spend one hour each direction in the car and 1 1/2 hrs total at therapy with only 30 minutes out of a sitting position. It is expected of them and they do it. Since my kids have been born they have never had the chance to get out of the stroller and walk in the mall, doctors office (except to be examined), grocery store, state fair, amusement park, chuck e cheese, etc and they are use to sitting. Not sure how I would keep up with 4 kids not contained anyway. Only their older brother gets to walk.

Tulip,

I just have to say you have been extremely lucky to have someone come to your house. We have had to take our boys in since they were 4 months old and just out of the NICU each time to re certify. We even have one with BPD and very sick and we still have to take them in we do not have the option. I am surprised that they even had the option this long. It is difficult but possible to get them there. I have been taking mine for 2 years. It is a pain though..

I think a lot of it depends upon the state/county you are in. I live in PA and have had to take my three every 6 months to get recertified- I have them have their iron tests done at the pedi office though. I look at it like this, I feel truly privileged to be able to get WIC so I do what they ask within reason. I always try to schedule their appt. the first one in the morning, this way no waiting and not hardly anyone else in there. I can see where you are coming from that it's annoying, but think about how annoying it would be to not get all of the things that WIC provides.

Tulip,

Please don't feel like you can't vent here, you can. I think that there are so many different people and personalities that sometimes things are going to clash. Maybe we all just need to realize that a vent is just that-a vent. We are annoyed with something, whether it is large or small, significant, or not-something is botheering us, and we need to vent. Who else to go to but others that understand what it is like to be in our shoes, the moms here at TC. I don't think you were looking for anyone to solve your problem, or set you straight-just someone to listen. It doesn't mean we have to agree, just listed-that is what friends do and that is what I consider everyone at TC to be.

I was allowed to recertify once without the babies during RSV season (when they were 8 months old), this required an exemption from my pediatrician. All the other times I am required to bring them in. I also take them with me for my other WIC appointments, (my 4 year old, education, etc.) so I do take all six children with me. Our office will not do home visits and require physician exemption or nothing! My only suggestion is to have a physician exemption written for you.

We don't qualify for wic, but my sister and sister in law get it. We had a horrible snow storm here this week, schools were closed for 2 days, which is unusual here. My sister had a wic appt. yesterday(thursday) she called them and asked to reschedule. They told her she COULD NOT reschedule. She had to take her 3 kids with her in horrible road conditions, which is not right but they did not give her an option.
I am sorry they are making you come in to the office. I have had a few bad experiences here, however those people that have shunned me have not chased me away and i truly hope you stick around here at TC.

Tulip,
I am in no way trying to be insensitive but I would like to give you another perspective on this. We do not qualify for wic and let me tell you our formula costs are WAY up there as anyone knows that does not qualify for wic. I realize you dont use formula and probably never did since you obviously breast fed but basically you get ALOT of free food. What I'm trying to say is that since (if I remember right) your babies never had any real medical issues and it is just more of an inconvenience , I have a hard time being sympathetic. I mean, if I could get wic to buy our formula I would load them up and go there once a week if I had to in order to save hundreds of $$$$. Am I making any sense??? I'm not trying to be harsh at all, I'm just saying that you should be thankful that you even get wic and what is a little inconvenience in order to get some free food? Also, you are such a strong woman and always seem to have everything under control so I would think that this would be no big challenge for you.

As a mother of triplets who has applied yet is not eligible for the program I think you should be grateful for the government program that ultimately helps your children. If you don't agree with their policies perhaps you shouldn't participate in their program. The policies apply to everyone and not just you.

And you shouldn't insuate that all people who participate in WIC are sick and dirty simply because they are "poor folks". I have many friends who particiate in WIC who would be insulted by such insensitive remarks.

I do emphathize with you but one of the realities of having triplets is that you will be challenged at certain times.

I personally don't think that the WIC office is asking you to do an inconceivable thing. I could understand being upset if your children were infants and/or born very premature, but your children are older and healthy (as far as I know?). Yes, it is an inconvenience, but honestly, it doesn't appear to me that it would be considered a "hardship" for your situation. I can think of several instances where I HAD to take all four children (when they were VERY young) with me to a county appointment (one of my dd's has a disability). Yes, I was irked, but learned to deal with it. My attitude was that yes, I have four children, but this is the way it is going to be and I have to adjust for my own independence and my childrens also. Of course, I was taking the risk of them all getting sick (especially my dd with the disability)but that is life and I didn't expect state and county rules to bend for my convenience. My dd has medicaid through a special state program due to her disability and I am grateful she qualifies and I will (and have) jump through any "hoops" that are required.
I hope that you continue to frequent TC for both receiving and giving advice. Your posts are valued here! You must know that we all have differing opinions and just because some posters do not agree with you doesn't mean that you cannot vent here.
I remember starting a post that was intended to focus on our blessings and it was totally "mauled" by some of TC. It was quite upsetting because a few posters turned it into something very personal and attacked me personally based upon *assumed* information about my financial status. I do not see any personal attacking in any of these responses. I see differing opinions.

Well I have read all these responses and I havent replied because I was afraid that Tulip would not recieve my comment (she said she is not reading any more), but I just wanted to say that I did not even know that they would do home visits for wic. Had I known that I probably would have got them to do it for me. If they offer it, why not? I have taken my babies in quite a few times. It is a pain in the butt, but we have to do what we have to do. I feel that you got lucky and used to them coming to your house, but had they not done that in the first place you wouldnt have this vent. I am sorry that you were affended by ppl on this board, I really enjoy reading your posts. So please dont back out now, just take it with a grain of salt and keep going. I do not post alot, mostly because I am usually reading post in between doing something with the babies, but I really learn alot on this site.

First of all I would like to say I am poor, but not sick or dirty! I have also had to take all three of the babies, by myself, since they were 4 months old. And I have had to bring them in with their heart monitors all in tow. We were never given the choice of having WIC come to the house and recertify us. I have also had to take my 27 weekers out each month last year for their RSV shots because they didn't come out to do that either. My three have done very well each time in the office. The nutritionist was great about helping me keep them occupied and I always made sure I had something for them to drink and snack on to help. You would be amazed at how well they adjust. I am sorry but this post just hit me the wrong way. I am glad that I am able to get some sort of help for our family. My husband works his butt off for us and it's nice to know that some of that is coming back to us.

Hi Beth!!

I also took all four of my quads (28-weekers) by myself to the WIC office for every recert (from the time they were tiny newborns), and although I was concerned about RSV, I didn't worry about taking them. I just made sure that only the people who worked there touched my babies - and only after they had washed their hands, and that children in the waiting room did not come close to my babies.

I understand your concerns, Tulip, but it really will be OK. They are two, and their immune systems should be developed enough to withstand RSV without serious complications. At some point you have to start looking at them as regular kids than as tiny, fragile preemies. That's not always easy for a mom who has been through so much, but it is not only possible, but necessary. Take it from one who knows first hand.

wow, I can't believe they let you certify at home ever. I have brought my babies into the WIC office since they were born, by myself. I was so grateful for the help that I never though to ask if someone could come to my house or to complain. I have postponed my 1 year recertification twice because of rain and snow. I usually have to park far away and it's hard pushing the stroller through the snow. I am too far away from my one year check up now to use the info from that visit but the wic office told me as long as I have the Dr. fill out the forms I wouldn't have to bring the kids with me but now it's too late. My problem is I don't have anyone to watch them at home anyway so if I have to go so do they. I just keep my kids away from others in the waiting room. Frankly, poor people on WIC probably have healthier kids than a lot of two income families who bring their sick kids to day care 50 hours a week. I am going to try to get on public healthcare too. We have insurance but the copayments and medications are just killing me. Last week my husband's whole check went to food, coopayments and medications for the kids. I am filling out college applications for my 2nd oldest and the financial aid application alone is going to cost $275. I can't believe that it could cost so much to apply for financial aid.

anyhow, good luck. I know how stressful it can be.

You know, she said enough was enough. You don't have to rub it in anymore as she was just venting & not directing it towards anyone here. It is your problem if you feel she was. Tulip~Here is my story:
We don't *officially* qualify for WIC either BUT since my trio qualified for SSI, in NJ they automatically got Medicaid in return qualified them for WIC. Now, I did not know this until they were 11 months old so I missed out on almost a year's worth of formula. I had to bring them in for their initial visit so they could be weighed & have their iron tested. I never had to bring them again though, they just needed the weights from the Pedi. Now, if they offered home visits, you bet your Patootie I would have jumped on it. And yes, there were filthy, poor sick people in there, that doesn't mean I am or you are or Tulip is. It's a fact. People milk the system, we all know that. And if I had to bring my kids, fine, I would have and I would have let them throw fits, cry, scream and annoy other people. I bet that would have been the LAST time I would have had to bring them, LOL!

For me personally, part of my venting "procedure",if you will, is to try to get a different perspective on the situation. It feels good to vent, step back and maybe get some info that maybe wasn't considered by myself, to help me view it in a different light. Yes, I might get a little p*ssed off at first (human nature) but as an adult, I like to welcome differing opinions and from what I see of Tulips other valuable and informative postings she would welcome the same? Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not see any intentional *personal* attacks in any of the responses to Tulip. It is also obvious to me that the respondents realize nothing was directed personally at anyone on TC.
Yes, it is tough to have to bring along children to these types of appointments, I wholeheartedly agree (been there, done that), but it is an inconvenience and we are all faced with those every day of our lives. Is it an incovenience for me when I have to bring a very ill child to the ped and drag my other three with me? Yes, of course, but should I expect the ped to come to my house just because it would be more convenient to me? It is called life and I feel blessed and thankful that I am dealing with these incoveniences. In my case, I could very well not have these blessings and I embrace lifes everyday irritations and incoveniences for what they are worth. trpsn1

If you don't remember Tulip when she first signed up here then let me refresh you. She was afraid to go out of the house alone with the kids, her dh gave her a hard time and she came here looking for help. Her vent falls under this again. She was just looking for the support of "You can do it!" not to be flamed for it.

"Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not see any intentional *personal* attacks in any of the responses to Tulip."

Maybe you have selective reading cause there are a few posts on this thread that do intentionally attack her. This board in the past few months has become very hostile. No wonder some of our Charter Members only respond once in a blue moon. I must have an awesome Pedi cause when my trio were going through Synagis he came to our house & gave them their shots during his lunch break. Along the lines of Tulip's words, I will not check this thread again. There are way more important threads to respond to and offer SUPPORT!

If you kindly would point me in the direction of the posts that do intentionally attack or even flame her, I would be glad to eat my words. I haven't seen anything resembling a flame here, unless there is more to the story that just isn't in black and white?
Although, I have again re-read the responses, I cannot find anything that looks like a personal attack. However, the responses to Lisa and Gretchen by the original poster could be perceived as defensive.
As far as hositily goes....well, I guess I shouldn't comment on that. I would hate to have this response viewed as a personal attack.

And no wonder some NEW or NON-CHARTER members are afraid to ever even post....

Just curious, what makes one a "charter" member?

I'm thinking the "Charter" members certainly have their "flame" and "hostile" times, as do the rest of us.

It's so sad that we, who should be united, can become so divided.

THANK YOU Tiffani! I have been thinking about this thread and not really knowing how to voice my feelings...there's no point in trying to be politically correct and therefore dance around the truth - there ARE dirty, sick people in those public health offices. Are ALL of them dirty and sick? No, for heaven's sake - but it only takes ONE to get my kids sick. And that's not acceptable. I did not want to bring my babies to that office and I found a way around it. I only hope and wish that Tulip could too. I'm not going to sit here and talk about how grateful I am to be lucky enough to qualify for WIC - my tax dollars since the day I started working have gone to fund that program, and in my time of need, I DESERVE WIC. They should be grateful for my support of them, not the other way around. Flame me if you want, but don't forget where your money goes once it gets taken out of your paycheck - WIC is simply that money coming back to you. You shouldn't have to lick anyone's bootheels or be unreasonably inconvenienced to get the benefits of YOUR money.

EDITED TO ADD: We also have a nurse that comes and gives the boys their Synagis shots - and while I'm grateful for that as well as WIC, I also know that I PAID FOR IT with my tax dollars in all the years that I have worked. The help that we get now has been paid for many times over.

There should NEVER be a charge to file for financial aid. That is ridiculous and unethical. I was a Financial Aid CoOunselor and would be happy to help you fill out the forms -- for FREE. Please e-mail me about this so I can help you! gottriplets@gmail.com or kunster@aol.com

Peggy-just a sidenote here..financial aid forms (FAFSA?) shouldn't cost anything. Maybe the school's application cost that much? I had to fill out the financial aid paperwork before qualifying for a student loan for my Master's degree, the application was free. I'm wondering if you're talking about the school's application fee.

as this is going on and on and on...
i don't think this really has anything to do with WIC. i also don't think this has anything to do with tulip's capability of bringing her kids into the office to recertify, as we all know how capable she is. we all know how frustrating and annoying it is to be accustomed to a certain way of doing things and then told that it has to change....especially when that means more work for us. it has nothing to do with being ingrateful. i'm sure we've all been frustrated at some type of change in our lives, but once we did it once or twice, it became routine. i remember it happening many times and maybe wanted some support in the beginning, like, "that REALLY sucks but you can do it!"

Filthy, Dirty, Poor, sick people? There are sick people everywhere you go....is it the filthy, dirty, poor part that bothers you? There IS a point in being politically correct. Lets try to remember that people from all walks of life have triplets and read these pages. I ashamed at what some of the postings on this string have touched on.

I'm not going to walk on eggshells when it comes to my children's health. Does being poor, dirty, or sick make someone a bad person? No. Let's not confuse the issue here. I've been sick before, and I've been poor before. Heck, I'm poor now! The issue at hand is not about whether or not it's ok to be filthy, dirty, poor, or sick. It's about keeping one's children healthy, and limiting their interaction with anyone who may be filthy, dirty, or sick is what will help keep them healthy. Unfortunately, in many cases, the poor are all of those things. It's not the rule, as we all know, but it is a fact of life. For example - would you want your children in close proximity to a homeless person who, through no fault of their own in many cases, may not have bathed recently, may have body lice, scabies, any contagious virus or something else that is dangerous to them? It's fine to be self-righteous and politically correct in our words, but would our actions match them? I'm not ashamed of anything I've said in this thread - and I don't think I've said anything that anyone else may think but not say.

Misty,
I agree that it is important as parents to do everything in our power to keep our kids healthy. No argument with that here! I have a child with Downs that has a weakened immune system and I understand the importance of keeping the family healthy. However, as a Christian, I wouldn't want my children to feel as if they could not approach a homeless person because he/she is filthy and/or carrying something contagious. I encounter prejudices from time to time regarding disabled people and it would breaks my heart knowing that people are possibly staying away from my daughter because of something that she has no control over. No one is perfect and I am raising my children to value every human life, not matter the circumstance, social status, or appearance.

Tulip,
I can understand you being upset with the inconvenience of having to take along all three children to the WIC office, yes, it's a pain in the backside. I guess the point I am trying to make here is, maybe to try to put it into perspective? Of course, it is going to probably suck, but you will be able to do it! Heck you have managed to bf triplets, this should be a piece of cake! Inconvenience yes, hardship no. A hardship to me would be having to bring three children in wheelchairs.
I hope you feel like you can continue to post here because you really do have alot to offer this site! You come right to the point, give great advise (and sometimes lifesaving) and are not affraid to say it like it is no matter who's toes you step on. Well, maybe yours have been stepped on today, but I think it was done with the best of intentions, just as I am sure your intentions are always the best.
Best wishes,

Please don't get me wrong trpsn1 - I am also a compassionate person who would be in a very sorry state if not for the kindness of many of my fellow human beings. I would hate to think that my children avoided someone because they were homeless, too - but I'm talking about babies, infants, toddlers mingling with people who may have communicable diseases. Totally different story. I don't mean to sound as if I cross the street to avoid the less fortunate - that is not the case at all. In fact, DH and I discussed this year that when our boys are old enough, we would like to make it a family tradition to volunteer at soup kitchens on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days, and that that would be a wonderful way to spend our holiday together and have our children learn what the holidays should really be about. I really would hate to think that I am coming off as an unloving, selfish, inconsiderate human being - but the issue here was never the quality of people who are on WIC, it was the quality of the health of those who may visit WIC's offices, and one's health has nothing to do with the kind of person they are.

Tulip, I didn't take the time to read the other replies. I just wanted to say I wish WIC up here woul dhave done home visits! I am dreading our upcoming appoinment on the 19th, as there is always some hacking kid in the waiting room. Last time, even though I push the stroller away from any people, and especially away from kids, a kid ran up to the stroller and pulled Vivian's hair!!

I hate going to the office, and when it is flu season like this, I hate it even more! I would make do without it,but there is NO WAY we can afford all the pediasure for Vivian!

I hope you get your in-home visits back, maybe a note from your Pediatrician would help?

Ok, so Tulip isn't reading this post anymore...

We've had WIC since the trio was born since we went from a 3 person family with 2 incomes to a 6 person family with 1 income.

I feel sooo lucky that I get FREE formula, etc. every since darn month! It saves a fortune! Yes, I HATE going to WIC, find it inconvenient as heck, am a bit ashamed using my "checks" at my upscale supermarket, but I do whatever I need to do to make our lives simpler (moneywise).

That Tulip got home visits from WIC for these 2 years is amazing and I'd be annoyed too if they decided it wasn't worth their while anymore. I have 4 kids on WIC and bringing in everyone was a pain in the a**!! I've only had to bring in the triplets once and Nyomi 2X & brought a friend with me the first time.

HI
I also was able to have WIC come to my house for the first year. I tried to schedule their dr apts around the WIC schedule so the dr office could do the heights/weights and iron. WIC was fine with this. UNTIL I moved to a bigger county. I actually called the WIC State office and spoke to the highest person I could reach and explained my situation. Well, I got a call the next day from the local WIC office and they were happy to accomodate me!! I used to work for the county so I know what they really can and can't do. I have brought them all in once and insisted that I either be the first or last appointment and not have to wait in the waiting room... I do the same and the dr's office.. We are luckly that we do/did qualify for WIC and it has helped allot but the WIC staff does have obligations to their clients. I have also reported a staff member to the state about her "terrible" (to say it nice) treatment of the clients. This does help because on the next appointment she is no longer dealing face to face with clients...
From what I understand to Public Health has been getting budget cuts BUT the Wic program has not but has actually seen an increase in funding due to more people qualifing..
Good Luck

I'm glad someone else noticed this.
Every day signature lines w/pictures get bigger and bigger - and DONT GET ME WRONG - the siggy lines are creative and wonderful, but it takes me FOREVER to open up threads that contain them.

I had no idea that this was an issue as there are no posting guidelines or signature guidelines to follow here. Honestly, I prefer to see pictures as I can "get to know" the members here better. I am also a very visual person & tend to not be able to recognize people w/ their screen name alone. The signatures help me put 2 & 2 together.

Is there a moderator or administrator here that could answer this question for us rather than this turning into a debate? I would like to think that I am able to put what ever I like in the signature unless there are specific rules that do not allow this.

Leave your siggy! I think it is beautiful!
It's not glitzy or glittery, just very classy and tasteful!

Listen, I don't like to argue but this isn't turning into a nice situation. Why would we talk to one another like this when it is hard enough to find a place EXCLUSIVELY for triplet moms & moms to be? I may be missing some history between some people here but this is a bit childish.

I just don't understand what the big deal is about the pictures?

No one said your siggy line was ugly but really it seems to be a competition around here who can have the bigger one. I'm saying it should be toned down. I find it distracting. I too am very proud to be a MOM & I think my kids are gorgeous but I keep it on the photo forum.

No bickering. There are just some people here who don't like others and they cannot play nice.

I wasn't calling you out and meant no harm to anyone.

Just want to know if I can have one too!

But then again I guess you should just do instead of ask permission! But that always got my butt beat growing up. So I tend to ask. Sorry!

Ahhhh...I just haven't been here long enough to understand the dynamics of the TC family. I suppose I'll catch on.

Are we suppose to ask permission to put stuff in our siggies? I didn't know that? I always play by the rules but didn't see any guidelines for the siggies.

Hey, if you want one, I'll make you one. I don't have anything better to do while on bedrest. It will take up my time.

Awe, thank you! I don't plan on removing it but felt compelled to reply to this question b/c I haven't been around here long & didn't know if I was breaking the rules.

IF there are NO rules being broken, I don't understand the problem. Honestly, I am proud of my belly, my triplets & want the world to see.

If this stalker guy wants a piece of this, go ahead...I have a 45 under the bed & a darn good aim. Otherwise, I am not going to feel pressured to take my picture off.

I am not quite sure I understand the op's problem with it either?
I don't think you are breaking any rules. I don't have a problem with opening any threads because of it and my computer is over 6 years old! LOL!

I may be wrong here, but I don't believe that anyone singled out Astrid in this post. The thing of question is the LARGE signature photos. Personally , I think they are very creative, HOWEVER, if you can create these things, than I am sure you can re-size tham as well. KWIM? Just make them smaller.

Tracy ~ I do not feel at all singled out. I follow rules when rules apply. If there is a limit in size or what we can put in the siggies, I will follow them. I just felt compelled to answer the thread b/c I do have a picture in mine. I don't want to step on anyone's toes or break policy.

I think it would be best if the admins jump in here & either tell us one way or the other. If we are allowed to put pictures, maybe the pixel amount should be specified.

For the record, although I know how to create these signatures, I did not create the one in mine. It was made for me thus I cannot resize it.

Thank you for finally bringing this up... To me it is all I see anymore when I sign on. It overshadows the question & the response. Really a place to have photos should be in the photo section only unless it is a small one like people use to have. I understand that you think it gives you some sort of visual of the person but to be quite honest we have had "belly" stalkers (yes people who get off on some of these type of photos) in the past & this is exactly what he will look for.

Is this a serious post or some kind of joke? I ask considering the picture that is in your siggy line.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, and personally, it doesn't seem to cause a delay for me (as far as opening posts). I actually like to see the pictures

It is a serious question. I'm not trying to start a debate or make anyone feel bad.

I'm too computer stupid to make one of those siggies. I thought the photo would give everyone a giggle.

Guess not!

Before I got my DH to make me one I wanted to ask. I would hate for this to crash the forum. We did have problem with photos in the main forum once before.

Jeff and/or Tiff e-mail must be burning up right now.

I have to agree Amy. When I open a thread it takes a long time to scroll through the responses with the huge pictures. I guess the photo forum would be a better place to have photos. Sometimes it's difficult to find the person's message with all the clutter in the signature line.

That is one big belly you have there.
