#340561, "Their surgeries are scheduled on the same day."

Just I thought they are both scheduled for wednes. I called neurosurgery today because I wanted to make sure Christian gets in soon and his surgery is at 1. They have not decided on a stunt or a reservoir the dr wants to talk to us about it so I am hoping there is an option. I called to let the NICU know because we were supposed to have a meeting about Brennan and then I call later and I am told his trach will be placed on wed. They tried to reschedule but the dr will be out of town on thrusday but they pushed his surgery back and it is at 6pm. Brennan is doing much better and was very peaceful when I saw him. They can wean his o2 but aren't since he will have a trach placed. So, now I frustrated because I can't be at two places at once. And instead of worrying about one baby who is having surgery now I have to worry about two. hoping there would be a couple days in between. I just hope everything goes well. They did say there still might a chance that they can push it back but not likely. I was hoping it was friday.

you called it!

valerie - you can be at both hospitals the same day.
how often is your husband going in to see brennan?

what you need to do is get a carer to look after justin on wednesday. there have been volunteers, and there are also his family members. i think you want to be at the hospital, and i think you know you your obligation is with brennan and christian rather than justin.

call his grandmother. don't go into detail, just say both of your sons are having serious surgeries, and you cannot look after justin, he will need to spend the next three days and nights with her. this is non negotiable as you will not be at home, you are required to be at the hospitals. PLURAL. and from now on, you will be required to be at the hospital a great deal more, meaning justin will need to spend more time with her. you have two children of your own, and you are in no position to care for a third.

you cannot be at two places at once, but you can be at one hospital, and your husband can be at the other.

be a momma lion - go out and be with your helpless young ones. you can do this, you need to do this.

Justin will be going to my friends that day. Grandma works and only has two days off a week. She no longer has any vacation time or sick because she just recently used it when she had pnemoniona. DH does not go and see Brennan very much at all.

Sorry to hear that both surgeries are scheduled for the same day.

Now is the time for you to step up and be their mommy and their advocate. No more excuses. Justin is not YOUR responsibility, he is your boyfriend's responsibility. If your boyfriend chooses not to see his boys in the hospital, that is on him. He most certainly can make arrangements for HIS son to be cared for while YOU attend to your 2 little babies!! No excuses!! And, just because his grandmother does not have any sick time, doesn't mean she can't take time off, sure it may be without pay, but oh well.. emergencies happen.

Nice, Michelle, real nice.

This mother has had one child die, one still ill in the NICU, two children scheduled for surgery and is obviously overwhelmed with her family dynamics. Way to go for laying even more guilt on this woman's shoulders. How supportive.

"ROFLMBO! Hey, I have a Riley too!"

Oh! I get it!!! Michelle has a daughter named Ryley. You have a dog named Riley. And that makes you want to roll on the floor and laugh your butt off. That is quite hysterical...if you're in second grade.

Michelle offers prayers for Fiesty's children and expresses the same concern voiced by other members on this board, and you poke fun at her child's name? Pot or kettle, Gina. You are part of the problem if you're not part of the solution.

Fiesty is clearly struggling with motherhood. That makes most of us feel badly for her children. Certainly, her entire family has been in my prayers. She has endured so much and all of us appreciate that. However, she has two children that need her greatly, so she lacks the luxury of self-pity. She can either fall down and fail her survivors, or she can get her act together and be the mom those little monkeys need. Many of us are praying each night that she seeks appropriate help and becomes the mom she can be...that she must be.

Stop clouding the issues with your inability to move on from personaility conflicts. I struggle to find anything supportive in your posts about your dog on a thread about a mom in need.

Dang, Lea! You sure have a way with words, lol. I now have to re-windex my computer screen and have to poor myself a new cup of coffee. Here I thought I was done with all of my housework.

For the record: I did not read anything, whether between the lines or not, that expressed support to Fiesty in Michelle's response on this thread. It was just plain pissy.

As far as a personality conflict? Well, yes our personalities conflict because we are polar opposites, TG. But, it's nothing personal.

But aren't you of the camp that if you need to tell someone something that doesn't pertain to that particular thread - that PM's are in order?

I didn't plan anything between the lines. I laid it out exactly how I planned it. Blunt and to the point. I pray for the boys. I pray that their parents find their way to their sons. I pray that she snaps out of this funk she's in and realizes the job she was put here to do, take care of her children. Plain and simple. Until I stop seeing excuse after excuse on why she can't do this, that or the other, I won't have much sympathy for the woman. My opinion.

Comparing my kid to your dog is really high class. Kudos to you. Now let me run off and see what I can compare your daughter to...

I wasn't comparing my dog to your dd, I was comparing NAMES. I like the name Riley and actually my ds was going to be a Riley had he been a girl. I did not name my dog after YOUR dd for pete sake! Get a grip! Chr*st, get a sense of humor, build a bridge and get over it!

Not that fiesty's posts are always worthy of a lot of respect, but seriously take this off the board and discuss elsewere. Boomom, that's just about the most off-topic mean-spirited personal attack on this board I've ever seen in quite a while.

Feisty, you may only be able to be there physically for one of your children at a time on that day, but in your heart you can be with both of them 100% on surgery day. It's your level of commitment that will make the difference.

I know that it's sometimes tough to see a situation for what it is, but if you step back mentally, and take inventory of your priorities (really, write a list) then you can organize your thoughts and actions and you'll feel more in control of what's happening in your life.

Hang in there. We'll all be thinking of your children during this difficult time.

Feisty,

I can't help you, nobody can. You simply won't quit thinking up your excuses long enough, to HEAR/LISTEN to the suggestions that are given.

Gina,

That showed a lot of class naming your dog after someone's DD that you clearly don't like. Do you need a constant reminder of DRAMA in your life everyday? I bet you think of Michelle every time you say "come here RILEY" How very Fatal Attraction-ness. So glad that you logged on this AM, to grace us with your stupid comments.

Gina,

You are too obvious. Oh, and you can say ASS. FWIW, not knowing anyone in these cliques, it is the way it came off when I read it. You really should be ashamed that you made the comment at all. What the hell is wrong with you. Go back to enabling people, you are better at it. You purposely pick fights with people and in my less than a year here, this is at least the second time I have seen you get personal about someone's kid. That's low and disgusting. You are not bright enough or smart enough to try to put out a thinly veiled comment. Talk about Junior High Obsession. You wait all the time to respond to something like this. The patterns are very clear from an outsider. YOU start the drama. Congratulations.

No sense trying to get someone to see the "REAL" issues because then they won't have to lean on you for anything. That is the only reason that you are being nice to Feisty, so that you can enable someone and they will constantly need you because nobody else here does. She makes your life worth while. HOW VERY PATHETIC.

Go back to laughing about your sickness. If I were you I would put down the keyboard and pick up the phone to call a certified psychiatrist.

However, I don't regret responding to Jayme's ridiculous accusations! It was just way too hard to not respond!

At risk of making this blow up into something way more than it already has at this point. I do agree that it has gotten way out of hand. But it reminds me of the time that you did the same thing when someone referred to YOU as "Boo", a shortened version of your former screen name. You went on the same type of jag saying that you felt your child had been threatened by the use of the name. Many here still think of you by the old screen name, or the one before.

I am not trying to start a fight here bringing this up. Just trying to put some perspective to it. You are saying that another member is completely stupid and over reacting because you refered to her child and your dog. But you have done the same thing accusing members of threatening you child by using a name you had chosen for yourself before.

Are you both over reacting or both justified, you be the judge.

Tasha,
Let it rest. I have already sent a pm to Michelle with my apologies.

The use of the name "Boo" goes much deeper than you may realize. I will not go into it, as it is personal and goes beyond the use of a nickname.

Again, let it rest. This was/is between Michelle and I and I can only hope that she accepts my pm apology.

Tasha,
No I didn't miss your point. I fully understood. The problem is that you obviously do not have the ability to understand my original issue with the use of my child's nickname.

Unfortunately, it is not something you will ever understand as you have not "walked in my shoes".

Go ahead and use the name "Boo" as you see fit. Attach whatever witty prefix or suffix, whatever trips your trigger. You may feel it's ok and not insulting to my dd, fine, that is your perspective and opinion. But, on my end, it further confirms my impression of your true character.

of COURSE they are scheduled on the same day...you are in a victim state and everything happens TO you.

take control and do what about 50 people have suggested, step up to the plate and take care of YOUR children.

Yes, this is a support board, not an excuse board. We've all been overwhelmed, tired, scared, frustrated and most certainly have been in your shoes...you are no different than the rest of us except you don't seem to think visiting your children is a priority and you don't seem to want advice, just to "woe is me" all the time.

Gina- why single out Michelle? Do some reading and you'll find several of us feel this way...please don't turn this into a personal way to bring heaping attention upon yourself, it's unbecoming and not appropriate.

Honestly and quite simply, because Michelle's response was just plain b*tchy.

Her words:
>Of course.
>Prayers for those 2 boys to do well with no family around
>them.

And really, I am aware that several members feel the same way, but at least most of them have had the tact to respond in a respectful manner.

And BTW, this is not some sorry-*ssed way to bring attention to myself. If that were the case, I would start a separate thread and jump on my "soapbox" to add more drama.

Micheles post was no more disrespectful than half a dozen others. You are clearly being inappropriate and wishing to draw attention to yourself for what reason, who knows. Why can't you simply stop yourself?

Valerie!

Please speak up and tell....yes TELL the NICU that they need to schedule Brennan for his trach next week when the doc is back in town. That you have another child having surgery that you will have to be with.

There is no reason the trach placement cannot be put off for a week. His airway is secure being intubated.

Take some of the pressure and stress off the entire situation and this will allow you to be there for BOTH your sons.

I'm going to e-mail you my phone number. Call me if you have any questions or need any help.

It is not their choice. They are there to advise you. My son was sedated for months on months before he got his trach.

In the long run yes it will be better for Brennan to have the trach, but he needs his parents there on surgery day. Today is going to run you into the ground.

You have every right to say NO and not sign those papers for his surgery today and force the issue of being re-scheduled for next week.

I tried to warn all of you a while back but no one wanted to listen.. You just flamed me for posting her info...

But now many of you are finally opening your eyes to what I saw, funny how the excuses keep coming, funny how she is not able to visit her baby in the hospital but has time to update a myspace page, create a new myspace page, visit this site and her other sites day in and day out, all the while a helpless child waits.... It truly sickens me...

I pray that my gut is right and she is faking cause what is the alternative a mother and father who seem to have no time for 2 premature babies who desperately need their UNDIVIDED attention and to bond with their parents....

There is no justification in my mind as to why a mother would not visit her child everyday... How many have been in far worse situations and had 1 or 2 babies home and the another(s) in the NICU which was 1-2 hours drive away, those who also had older siblings and still were able to somehow get there even if it was for just an hour a day...

The NICU is open 24 hours a day, get off the darn computer and go there at 12 am instead of posting here....

IT JUST MAKES ME SICK.....

I personally went out of my way to have someone contact you IRL to offer help. You turned it down.

I've run completely out of sympathy for people who don't want their children. Clearly your boyfriend doesn't want them and you don't seem to have the emotional capacity. So do those babies a favor and give them to someone who WANTS them and try again later when you are more mature.

Meanwhile, spare us all the gorey details. It's just upsetting. Today for instance, I would like to shake the living hell out of you.

And at the VERY LEAST take the people up on their offers of help. AT THE VERY ABSOLUTE LEAST. People aren't going to continue to offer their services again and again.

I likewise tried to help. I had a girlfriend who is a nurse at Mary Birch go to Children's in search of her. I offered her contact names and numbers of the professionals in the hospital that wanted to help her...but couldn't find her or her son. I even called my contact at Children's billing offices about the whole "They won't release my child until I have XXX amount of money to give them on the bill" story. I offered practically brand new cribs to her, with delivery from my father to where ever, when ever!

I got one email back that said "Thanks, I'll contact you." Now I guess all I can do is offer get-off-your-ass support and hit my knees each night. This is a very hard story to stomach. I think one of the other girls said it best...this was one poster we all wish was a faker.

First, this mom needs to have her but drug, kicked, carted, or otherwise transported to the hospital several times a week to see her son who has been left in the sole custody of shift nurses for DAYS, if not WEEKS, at a time.

WHY? More excuses than many of us can imagine.

She has told us about family issues, boyfriend issues, step son issues, grandmothers who work and we've all told her the same thing - take charge, accept help, recruit help, but take responsibility of these babies. What does she do? Come on her to tell more sob stories of why she "can't" do what she is responsible for doing.

Today, more teenage drama from a few mamas bickering about tone of messages and various uses of pet names and nick names and other issues related to their clique allegiances - but NOTHING to do with the sweet child awaiting mama to visit...

Now, why won't the mopping lady icon work for me?!?!?!?!?!

This is the whole point that no one seems to get...whether you believe her stories or not...she loves this. She knows everytime she posts these crazy sad stories it gets everyone amp'd up and fighting because of her.

She is so not worth it. She clearly doesn't want her children. I feel horrible for any baby that would be given a mother like her. I've said it time and time again...NO ONE and NOTHING could keep me from any of my children EVER!!! Eventually as the babies get better the hospital will do what they are supposed to and call children's services on her. I can only pray that someone would do this sooner than later.

WTF is wrong with those of you that know her name and information???? Do you think that this person is a fit mother, honestly????

Talk about kangaroo care??? Poor little babies.

I can't wait not to hear from her again...she never takes the hint or the direction given and not to bother posting this bull b/c no one really cares about her. I pray for her babies and that's it.

Thank you so much for this post! I will remember it and NEVER reply to her drama seeking posts again...you hit the nail on the head. Easy to get sucked in to, smarter to ignore...thanks for the adult reminder that I needed!

You can all think what you will, assume what you will and so on and so forth. You are not me and you don't know me. I am good mother just because I can't see my son all the time does not make a bad mother. The hospital isn't going to call children services on me. As I said before they know what is going on. My chid can't be taken away because I don't see him enough he can only be taken away if I don't care for him when he is home. I don't post on here to un due bull crap from you. I post on here for support. So, I get a bunch of crap because my children's surgeries are scheduled on the same day...whatever. I am not a drama seeker. Some women are not like you and they actually care and don't judge.

That's just it. We do care - we care about those boys that have parents that are uninvolved in their care, that make up excuse after excuse to not be there for them. Just because we aren't patting you on the back doesn't mean we don't care. If we didn't care we'd just ignore your posts all together.

People have offered you help and you refuse to accept it. It's time to stop the woe is me attitude and step up to the plate.

No one says it is easy, but being a mom isn't easy, even under the best of circumstances.

NO you get a bunch of crap not bc your children are having surgery on the same day. But bc these woman are trying to lend you support and you coninually refuse it. Why can't you call the hosp. and TELL them that you are not allowing your son's surgery to be done on the same day and reschedule it. Who is the parent here? The doctor or YOU! Step up to the plate lady and start delegating what you want! You don't want people to judge you than stop giving them a reason not to. I do care about women who are trying to help themselves and their children.

BTW, who ever posted that cleaning lady, does she do house calls?

The surgery for Brennan needs to be now. I was already put off when he was sick it was supposed to be next week. Getting it done now is what is best for Brennan. I already tried to get it rescheduled. The dr's say it needs to be done now. So they won't wait.

Rescheduling a surgery is not like rescheduling a hair appointment.

It involves messing with the very tight schedules of surgeons, anesth, hospital etc etc etc. Also, most doctors DO have regular office hours, not to mention daily "rounds" that takes up a major portion of their day. I have a close family member that is a physician. He is gone from sun-up to way past sun-down. As his dw says, he has to schedule time to take a piss.

A lot of things are out of a parents control.

We all understand that, really, we do. What we can't quite get our arms wrapped around is why she is on a discussion forum defending the decisions she hasn't stepped up to the plate to make on the DAY her children's surgeries are scheduled to be done.

I so cannot believe you said this! No it's not, but it is not an EMERGENCY situation. There for it is an elecetive procedure and can be rescheudled! Not to mention it is in the parents control. They have to have signed authorization for an ELECTIVE procedure.

But I guess you must know better then me since you have a doc in the family. And 20 some odd surgeries my trio have had I don't know better.

I just wanted to note that in some states a nurse/physician can make a call to children's services if you do not visit your children.
Infact, it is their job. I was also told that the hospital is suppose to monitor visititation in while in the hospital to make sure the parent and parents are fit to take care of a premee. Can't get much info if there is no contact.

I'm not getting involved in any of the drama on this thread but wanted to point out that you are completely wrong if you think the hospital can't and won't call social services on you for not visiting your children. It happened to me, even though I spent at least 1 hour every night visiting him for 8 of the 12 nights/days he spent in a picu. Someone decided it was unnatural for a mother to not spend more than 1-2 hours per day with her deathly ill 3 month old preemie son.

Valerie:

You have been given some excellent advice, especially from HOWMANY, as she has been through multiple surgeries for her children. However, if your doctor is strongly determined that the surgery is needed at a particular time, the hospital can override you by getting CPS involved to obtain permissions for surgeries by obtaining legal custody of your child, so there is an ultimate, final line.

I would encourage you to post on the Bereaved Parents forum. There appear to be a lot of well intentioned people who have offered help to you, and who do not quite understand that their assistance may be completely outside of what you can handle emotionally right now after the loss of a baby and the serious problems that your other two infants are experiencing.

FWIW, I lost Carina upon the birth of my two preemies. Caeleigh had major surgery at 4 days old, then contracted MRSA, and finally contracted sepsis and nearly died at about 5.5 weeks old. Caidan colonized for MRSA and developed a sympathetic breathing issue that put him on CPAP when Caeleigh was re-intubated and put back on the respirator at 5.5 weeks. As horribly traumatic as all of this was, it was nothing as severe as what you have been through.

I was completely traumatized. When I got home with Caidan, I had one bassinet set up; two bassinet sheets; some receiving blankets; some diapers; and little white undershirts. I had the hospital breast milk bottles; a nursing pump; and, formula. Oh, and the requisite car seat. I wasn't able to cope with trying to set up cribs or deal with any "billing" issues or anything. But, I did have time to come online at TC to talk to folks about what I was going through. The support at TC is a big part of what helped me to get through the whole thing.

Yes, I have also seen fakers on this forum in the nearly five years that I've participated here. But, I've also seen a lot of very traumatized women who have lost one or more babies and are struggling with seriously ill babies in NICU and hospital circumstances.

I know a lot of the people who have become involved in this post, and admire a lot of you. I know that your offers of help have been sincere and that it must feel like Valerie simply wants to whine right now. Frankly, you're probably right -- I suspect she does want to whine, and cry and lick her wounds, and likely feels completely ill-equipped to fight anyone or anything right now. And, it sounds like she is not getting a lot of support from the folks that should be helping her, including a boyfriend who will not go to visit one of their children.

Lea, I know your heart is good. If I were you, I would tag the cribs for Valerie and hold them until she is bringing home her boys. I feel sure that she will appreciate them when the time comes. The same is true for the others who have offered help. I guess that the best help that any of us can provide right now is to listen and offer suggestions without any expectation that Valerie is going to be able to follow them right now.

Oh, and Valerie, I'll look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Fondly,

So it's 11:45 EST. So for you right now it's 8:45 a.m. Your son had surgery set for 6:30 a.m. Your California time. So why are you on the internet and still have to get to another hospital for your other son's surgery at 1 p.m. your time.

How do you find the time? You MUST be supermom!!

According to her initial post it is scheduled for PM, not in the AM.

" They tried to reschedule but the dr will be out of town on thrusday but they pushed his surgery back and it is at 6pm."
