I almost posted on your blog (your REAL one) but I saw your parents read that and I don't want to embarass your family.

You commented on my blog that you have triplets but started out as quints and lost a set of identical girls. However, your real family website shows that you have twin girls with a son that is one year older. I feel stupid for wasting my time explaining my son's situation on your fake blog.

I don't care that you are reading a triplet website, but please don't pretend you have triplets.

Wow. . . unreal. Is it possible that the fake one is set up and written by someone other than the real mother/father with the photos stolen?

Do you mean the one saying twins was set up by someone other than the real mother/father? Or the triplet one? The triplet one is in the sig of the poster here. I haven't really looked over the sites so I can't comment. But if family members are posting on the one saying they are twins and an older child and not the triplet site then I would be questioning the poster here also.

Oh definitely question the poster, absolutely. I'm just saying that it's probably not the real mother pf the kids and someone stole the photos. Or is that totally obvious and I'm a little behind. . .
Sorry if I was stating the obvious.

No you are right. Wouldn't be the first time someone faked a blog with stolen potos. If it is the mom we might have even bought the 'well they are Irish triplets' out if the 2nd site didn't specifically say IVF with 2 implanted resulting in triplets.

Wow - almost makes me glad I don't post a ton of pictures of the girls on my site.

Probably someone just ran across their twin site and copied it into a triplet site since they look the same age? I'm no Nancy Drew, though!

Either way, whoever's posting here has "got some 'splainin' to do."

Someone reminded me of GotTriplets.com and when they had their stuff stolen. Here's some info from his site about protecting your stuff:

http://gottriplets.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

How Do I Protect My Pictures?

Many blogs or picture services have password protecting features. You can still write your blog, but just password protect all your pictures. Then just give out your password to friends and family. You'll have to check with your blog provider to see if you have this feature available. Sites like Photo Bucket allow you to password protect your photo albums.

Watermark Your Pictures - I've been adding watermarks to all my newly posted pictures. It won't stop someone from downloading them and posting it elsewhere, but at least it will deter someone from passing off my pictures as their own. Since I'm a geek, I just use the paint program, Fireworks, to add the watermarks. Most you are probably better off buying a cheap watermark software program that makes it easy to add a watermark image to your pictures. If you want me to review a couple of these programs as your resident geek, let me know in the comments and I'll spend a few hours trying to find the best and cheap program for you dear reader.

Don't Post Pictures - Yeah I bet you saw that one coming.

How Do I Protect My Content?

Password Protect Your Blog - That's right, just about every blog platform out there allows you to password protect your blog. This would never work for me. We have over a thousand daily readers now. How would I know who to give the password to and who to withhold it from? This blog started off for family and friends. It's turned into something sort of inspirational. I get at least 2-3 emails a week from parents who have gone though or are going through the hell we went through last year, and they thank me for giving them a little piece of mind knowing they are not alone with it comes to having premature babies. How can I give up the blog when I know I'm helping others? I'm a people person damit!

Zookoda Baby - You can use a service like Zookoda to stay in touch with close ones. This service allows you to send out daily emails instead of blog posting to keep in touch with family and friends. I haven't used this service, but if I didn't have a blog and I wanted to show everyone I know how cute my kids are, I would totally use this service. It can also be used in conjunction with a blog. Check it out.

Disable RSS/Atom Feeds - RSS/Atom feeds are basically a file format used by tools on the Internet to make our lives easier. These feeds allow us to basically subscribe to different blogs and read them in one spot, like Google Reader. So instead of visiting 20 different preemie blogs, you just have to open up Google Reader and all your subscriptions will be in one spot. Pretty convenient eh? Well the downside it's pretty convenient for bad guys to automate stealing your content and transforming in mischievous ways. That's one reason why I do not have one on my blog and I make all of you come visit us everyday! This feature is usually enabled by default on most blog platforms.
Don't Blog - Yeah I bet you saw that one coming.

What If Someone Is Stealing From My Blog?

The DMCA - Digital Millennium Copyright Act in its simplest form protects your intellectual property (re: blog post and pictures). The last thing you want to do is get a lawyer to file a cease and desist letter to someone that's stealing your good stuff. Most blog platforms have procedures that make it pretty convenient to file your own cease and desist letter. Here are the links for Blogger, and WordPress (the most popular free hosted blogging platforms)

How Do You Find Out If Someone Is Stealing From My Blog?

Google Is Your Friend - Take select phrases from your blog and just use Google to search for them. If there is another website out there using your content, you'll probably find it. However, sometimes Google is a little slow to index fresh content, so it could take awhile before a questionable site gets into their index.

Have Rad Readers Like Kristie - I found out someone was stealing from us by an alert reader. I then was able to find another blog that was being ripped off and alerted them as well. We're all here to help each other, right?
CopyScape.com - Copyscape.com is a service where you plug in your website address and it will look for people copying you. Not always 100%, but a good place to start. --Thanks Jennifer.

Is there a reason someone would want to pretend that they have triplets? This is absolutely fascinating to me. I just don't understand what is so glamourous about it that you would steal someone's identity and then proceed to garner support and encouragement from a whole mess of strangers. Weird.

Ugh... As soon as I saw someone had done this to Chrissy, I immediately went through and started watermarking all my pictures that I have on my blog. I just have so many up there! It\'s going to be so much work to watermark all of them and them replace them all with the watermarked ones! Or, if I wanted to make it a little easier, I could go through and just delete all the pictures, but still it would take a lot of time. I\'m actually thinking of just shutting my blog down, but my relatives love reading it. (Never comment, but...)
I\'m also considering opening up a new blog and not posting any pictures, or just new ones that I watermark before I post. Has this made anyone else wary of blogging?

Mine is password protected for this very reason. Some weird woman was getting toooo personal. Yes, it broke my heart to take it away from the literally thousands of readers I didn't know who said they got so much comfort from it. And I couldn't possibly give the password information to everyone who originally had access or who asked for it. But...I felt that protecting my family trumped all that. The other option would be to not post pictures, and I knew that would just disappoint too many far-away family and friends who "saw" our kids only on the internet.

It's a tough choice that only you can make. This is pretty sick stuff. And I just don't get it...why anyone would enjoy faking this kind of thing. Odd.

Cathy, good work! I just recently found out someone was using my entire family as her family. Had just really detailed day-to-day scenarios described, including my ds falling and banging his head (WTF?). I am starting to put different things into play on my website like watermarks and "no-right-click" (which I'm getting ready to do) to make it harder for someone to steal family pictures. I just didn't see that one.

I really don't understand people who do this. Just don't get the point. They must be very lonely people!

I was just thinking I need to blog more as I'm horrible with it. But I usually don't post too many pictures of my kiddos.

Maybe it's someone that is dealing with infertility and has gone over the edge and has created this whole fanstasy world, where they have children and they are accepted into a community of parents. That would be plausible. It's really the only reason I can think of.

I am absolutely disgusted with this!
In fact, I\'m disgusted with myself!
I\'ve been emailing back and forth, as well as commenting, the REAL mom, since I was pregnant with the trio. I can\'t believe I didn\'t see this faker on here and catch it!
To resolve it...
The maestrifamily.blogspot.com is DEFINITELY the real one. She even has one picture of Julia and Rachel at about 6 months and Dominic just over 2. Definitely her kids!
Ugh!
I\'ve been so caught up in other faker drama (don\'t even ask!) that I wasn\'t on the lookout for anymore! Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Anyway, whoever caught this, and however they did, I\'m sure we\'re all glad about it!
Thanks for posting this!

Wait. I am confused as well. Jrdthree is fake? I fell hook line and sinker!! Infact didnt that poster just comment on one of the rude comment posts about how adorable all three of her kids are so she has never received a comment to the contrary?! Is the person posting here the fake?! Does the REAL mom post here as well? I am so confused! I was checking out JRDthree not too long ago!!!

Sorry I did that post in haste. I was only home with 5 minutes to spare when I started this.

The faker posted a comment on my blog cheering on my son, but asked for someone to fill in the blanks as to why I was excited that my son took steps with a grocery cart. I took the time to go to her blog (the fake one) and posted a mini-version of Matthew's history. She then referenced me in her blog.

The person on this site is not real. The real mom has twins and an older child. The fake one is on here and posted a blog. She told me she was preggo with quints (4 id girls and a fraternal boy) but she lost a set of identical girls early on in pregnancy.

I was more irritated that I took the time to answer someone about my son and then find out that she wasn't legit. When I first posted this I didn't know that there was a real one on a twin website. To that family, I am so sorry. I am just glad I didn't post a comment on her blog. I saw that her parents read it and didn't want to bring that to their attention.

I was afraid I would be flamed when I left lol. I normally keep my mouth shut when the calling out starts because I am afraid of making a mistake. Glad I was right!
